    Yesterday I accidentally ran up on the median. I thought the van was fine but today, the speedometer isn't working and it won't shift out of 1st gear. *sigh* Any idea what I might have broke??

Transmission speed sensor needs replacing about 40.oo$ at the dealer sits on the right side of transmission looking from the front of the radiator g s.

When I shift into drive my speedometer jumps up to 20 mph
check all your fuses. if you boosted it before changing starter there is a chance u blew a fuse. I would disconect battery and wait 60seconds then re attach to reset the computer

I have a 1999 Chrysler 300M. Simultaneously, the Check Engine light came on, the speedometer stopped working, and the car doesn't shift out of 2nd gear. What's the likely problem?
these vehicles have alot of problems with the tcm( tranmission control module) internal failures of trans speed sensors. your car is currently in "limp in mode" to protect your trasmission!!!

My 1999 chyrsler town and country mini van 3.3 lt engine is having problems. This Morning my speedometer quit working and my car is not shifting gears. It wont switch gears properely and the service engine...
The output speed sensor may have come unplugged or got damaged. It is at the front of trans close to the drivers side tire. If you lay on the ground in front of the tire you should be able to see it.

I notice that sometimes my 98 chrysler town an country jumps from 1st gear to 2nd gear to soon. Does that mean that my transmission is starting to go out?
If it is only happening sometimes, you should get your transmission serviced ASAP. If you do this you should be able to save the transmission.

On my 1999 Chrysler Town & Country the instrument panel has quit working...the gas gauge,odometer,speedometer, tachometer and the first 3 #'s of odometer and first 3 Letters of gear shift are always on...
They are indeed probably related. You should have your instrument panel taken out and checked for short circuits or damage to the connections. They can interfere with the the alternator's voltage regulator, which is in the panel. You would most likely be better off by buying an entire used unit from an auction site.

On a 2001 Chrysler town and country the transmission will go in park, neutral, reverse and will drive in either drive, 3d or 1st gear. The problem is that it won't shift from 1st gear to second or third...
sounds like you are looking at a rebuild. chrysler transmissions need to be adjusted periodically by a qualified tech. if they aren't adjusted properly the results can be catastrophic.

Trans
Check the speed sensor on the tranny cause if the speedometer is not working the tranny will not shift.The computer will not recognize that the transmission is in motion so will not shift.
