It's an automatic but it won't shift from 2nd to 3rd.
I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 4wd and lately it won't shift from 2nd gear to 3rd. It will shift from 1st to 2nd but that's it. Is that the transmission or could it be something else?

Remove trans pan and inspect shift solenoids. These are prone to come apart and visual inspection often finds the problem. Replacement units include a bracket to keep this from happening again.

not enough trans fluid...... if it slips after a trans flush reuse the old fluid its got the old clutch dust in it and the clutches will grab better....
COULD BE THE GOVERNOR WORN OR DAMAGED.I WOULD HAVE IT TAKEN TO TRANSMISSION SHOP.HE CAN RUN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST USING A SPECIAL SCANNER TO CHECK 1 - 2 SHIFT SOLENOIDS AND 2 - 3 SOLENOIDS.ALSO YOU COULD BE HAVING PCM PROBLEMS.IT NOT CONTROLLING THE SHIFTS.
