2006 Jeep Liberty Had a new transmission put in in January. Right before the transmission went, I started feeling a slight hesitation, especially going uphill or in the rain. This has continually gotten worse (I've been unemployed until recently and simply did not have the money to fix it...but also wasn't driving the vehicle much either) I just started commuting to work and had 4 tires put on - same day my check engine light came on and the hesitation got much worse. Usually when I first start driving it for the day. If I hit the gas it just doesn't go...eventually it kicks in and off I go. The check engine light stays on, but it flickers when it acts up.

Ive had this similar problem in the past with my 2000 Grand Jeep Cherokee. Ive found by putting the Jeep in neutral ...it started right away. Good luck

There are individual tests that can be done on each component. If something shows up as "out of range" or close to being out, I would consider it as a potential problem, At this point without being able to actually work on it, I would begin by looking at the throttle position sensor, map sensor and the egr valve (if it has one). I fail to understand how any shop can permit a customer to drive a vehicle in obvious distress and "wait for the light to come on". Before changing sensors, I'd change shops and find someone who cares!!!!
Good luck, and post back when it's fixed, I'd like to know what it turns out to be!!!
SOURCE: engine hesitating during acceleration
Ok, there are many issues here that you will need to inspect. I recommend changing the fuel filter and pump as well. this will fix the hesitation. the intake and exhaust manifold gaskets will need to be replaced as well. this will stop the backfiring.
I also recommend checking and running a teat on the PCV valve and inspect the PCV hose as well. it could have a leak or a small crack on it.
Check the air filter and change if needed. this will help with acceleration issues as well. Next, i would run a check on all plugs and the complete wire set as well. change if needed.
Inspect the injectors for leaks and lose wires. make sure they are in good condition. replace any injectors that isn't firing properly.
Ok, there are some sensors that you will need to check as well. i will list them below.
SENSOR CHECK LIST--
1. Check the O2 sensors for worn wires.
2. Check the MAFS(Mas Air Flow Sensors) Check for Damaged, Loose, or Faulty Mass Air Flow Sensor or Circuit.
3. Check the Air Cleaner Temperature Sensor. this sensor could be damaged ro have loose wires. check accordingly.
4. Check the Throttle Position Sensor. this device could be connected wrong or it may be faulty as well. replace if needed.
Be sure and inspect all the above and repair any problem spot you ruin across during your inspection.
Please rate and god bless:)
