Need to know where air-fuel sensor is on 2002 toyota rav 4

You converter is not the reason for misfire,Bad spark or leaking injector will release row fuel in converter and after burn and glow red hot. remove all spark plugs an look for one is black. or wet . replase plugs with DENSO or NGK inspect the wire for burn blue marks on the side or replace the injector if fluted cylinder.

computer box will need to be changed,the computer is programmed to read the pick up sensors of the camry and is not compatable with the rav4,whiering harness needs to be changed to fit the rav4 computer aswell as the key code sensor around the egnition.

Hi, Toyota have recalled its 2001-2003 Rav4s I own 2 of them and my 2002 had the same problem until I call Toyota National customer service and confirmed that my VIN# fail in the recalled vehicle. the main problem is ECM and replaced by local Toyota dealer free of charge. You need to act now by next year this warranty will end since your vehicle will turn 10 years. The other thing is it got to be under 150,000 miles on it. Call the Toyota National customer service right away.

When was last tune up? Plugs, wires, ALL filters & fluids especially fuel filter. I'd start there and run a good fuel system cleaner through it and AVOID cheap gas.

fuel lights these days in modern cars come on for more reasons than just having little fuel left in the tank. toyotas electronics are very reliable and not too complex. but this could indicate a couple of reasons 1) the fuel filter in the tank is dirty. 2) the sensor for the fuel capacity is defected. and 3) the wrong fuel is messing about the injector system.
a diagnostic machine should locate the problem very quickly. good luck

is the check engine light on? check for engine fault code
the front oxygen sensor could be bad
it's called air/fuel mixture sensor

The Rav 4s have 2 issues firstly the injectors can leak and this causes a strong fuel smell on start up,even cleaning wont fix it they need to be replaced,and secondly valve stem seals go in them meaning on cold start up it will blow smoke for a few seconds,these are the 2 most common issues as i work for Toyota and see plenty of them
