Why would my emergency brake not hold? I have installed new drums, dealer replaced cable three yrs ago and has not been tight since. I have gone back several times, and had adjustments, what else can be...

Make sure you have lots of "meat" on your brake shoes.
Emergency brakes only apply rear brakes by using shoes against the drum, that are pulled by the cable, that's attached to the emergency brake lever / pedal....and actuated by the driver.

It has to be one of those three components...may have to pull the drum and actuate the pedal / lever to see if the cable spreads the shoes and make adjustments from there.

If your back brakes don't hold...it can also cause the ABS light to illuminate...

Hope this helps...

How do you adjust the emergency brakes on a 2001 f150 supercrew?

If you have disc brakes, there is no adjustment and the emergency/parking brake as no effect on pedal travel. The emergency/parking brake uses regular drum type shoes working in a small drum inside the rotor and is independant of the service brakes.

Rear brakes 05 merc montego

Try turning again clockwise with a little more pressure. If the brakes were worn badly the piston is just stuck from being adjusted out so far.

How can adjust the emergency brake for my 2004 GMC Envoy...

YOUR MOST LIKELY PROBLEM IS IN THE REAR ROTORS. THE PARK BRAKE AREA WILL RUST INWARD WEARING OUT THE PARK BRAKE SHOE. THE ADJUSTER IS UNDER THE ROTOR ALSO. ONE ON EACH SIDE.

ADJUST THE SHOE OUT UNTIL IT TOUCHES THE DRUM AND THEN BACK IT OFF ABOUT 6-7 CLICKS.
