When I hit the trunk release on my 02 Ford Focus wagon, the trunk does not release, but I can hear the relay click once when I hit the button and once when I let go. I tested the trunk release unit on the back, and it works if I can get power to it. The window wiper fuse (15 amp) as well as the rear defrost (25 amp) have also blown. I pulled the glove box and found all the wiring harnesses and Siemens unit, but have no idea how to proceed from here.

Fuses work or they don't, continuity or not. If it's bad, it is burnt out and not giving voltage, it doesn't work.

When you press the button to open the trunk, a solenoid pulls the catch, and the trunk opens and the catch remains open.

When you press down on the truck lid, the catch base is pressed mechanically and it locks shut.

Your issue is almost certainly 'Adjustment', the catch isn't going down low enough when you press or slam.

Open the trunk, use a screwdriver in the slot to close the catch. Get someone to open the trunk release and watch it open. It it does, it works. You need to slacken off the bolts on the catch or the keeper plate and move it closer.

A click means the actuator is working check the connection between the actuator and the release mechanism sometimes the plastic pin breaks.

yes. The Ford family has had this issue for a few years now. it is caused when there is too much in the trunk or for the sable wagons the storage area. when the trunk lid or hatch back is slammed repeatedly, it can cause the steel stud that latches the trunk shut to bend a little. the easiest way to fix this issue is to get a medium to large pry bar and shift it back into position. this will cause the sensor switch (for the door a jar lamp) to go out when it is shut.

You are required to press the boot release button 2 times to open it. If it fails.


Try reprogramming the remote. Watch the above video

Take out the circuit from Ford remote and check for physical damage near trunk release button. If its damaged get it reparied from some electronic repair shop.

I made a video on how I fixed that problem on my 2003 Ford Focus. I show how I had to clean the button and where I found some wires going to the latch had cracked insulation.

Check your fuse box, look on the diagram and locate the fuse (10 amp most likely) for the auto trunk. The clicking is the relay, it also operates the keylees entry for the doors.

If you will open your trunk, you will see a round handle lever you pull on to release the seat. There should be one on each side. They are located near the top of your trunk.

if you do hear the click noise then that means your trunk is now unlocked. Try giving it as much force as you can while someone else is hitting the trunk release, your hinges for your trunk are probably hung up on something.
