I have a 01 suzuki grand vitara w/automatic transmission it has trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd gear shifts kinda hard. on start up in mornings sometimes will disengages out of gear altogether

A/T tranny's are complex and expensive devices.
I bet , its never been serviced, right?
why not do a full flush with new filter, if the filter (inside) is clogged
only hot ATF flows, easy. and causes low pump pressures.

do not go to Jiphphy lube or Quick lube joints, as they do bad work. (half arsed work)
go to a real shop with real ASE tech that know how to
service (fully) any automatic. (yes, they drop the pan)

if 1/2 shift trouble means, late shifting. , the S/P botton cause that. Std, or sport shifting plans.

SOURCE: cant shift out of park

There is usually a button behind the brake pedal which does two things.

A. it actuates your brake light

B. It also unlocks the the gear selector

Sometimes they simply need an adjustment usually a 13mm lock nut and advance the switch in small incriments.

56 ducato van wont go into 1st 2nd gear easy

The shifter needs to be inspected. The shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.

There are many other possibilities. But if it was working right up till now and suddenly this occurred then its shifter assembly alignment issue.
