I have a 92 Plymouth Laser with 12,000 miles. The fuel went bad while in storage. The tank was removed and cleaned and the fuel pump and filters were replaced. The car runs rich and surges and is worse when it warms up. I suspect the mass air sensor or the fuel pressure regulator but don't know how to test them.

Did you check fuel pressure after replacing the pump ?
If the regulator fails, it would either not maintain normal pressure, or leak fuel into the vac hose.
If the mass airflow meter fails, it won't run and the check engine light would be on.
Have you watched the O2 sensor and engine temp sensor on a scanner to see what they are reading ?

SOURCE: My 1995 Plymouth Voyager loses power, surges and backfires.

My first instinct tells me timing chain or belt, but it could be a vacuum line loose, cracked or disconnected. Using a stethoscope, or a length of gasline hose held to your ear, and with the engine running, listen for a hissing sound. Be sure and wiggle all the hoses you can. You might make one hiss. If you don't find anything, get a timing light, and check your timing marks. They should stay in basically one spot. If it's jumping around a lot, you need a new timing chain or belt. Good luck.

Change the mass air flow meter firstly if they are faulty then you will use excessive fuel.

Where is the fuel filter

Probably like many newer cars (fuel injection). The filter is an integral part or the fuel pump and its located INSIDE the fuel tank. It can be replaced, but ONLY at qualified shops. Risk of fire or explosion is too high. BTW, This filters are "long life" and should be replaced every 100,000 miles, unless you got contaminated fuel (I did once and had to replace filter at 12,000 miles.

Sediment in my fuel tank. 1987 volkswagen cabriolet. how do I clean it out?

How was the fuel in the filter when you removed the filter? If you just replaced the fuel filter that is a good start, But you are a CIS,You basically have a coked up fuel distribution bowl. With the engine off, take out the air intake boot and acess the air flow sensor plate push it down,if it readily comes back up nice and easy then its in good shape, if it slowly comes up and even not at all use carburator cleaner try to clean up the lever plate,so it will have a smooth operation ,this is a fuel metering device,8_10_2012_4_55_34_am.gif

1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE 3.3L R Problems originated with no lighter, no high beams, no power locks, then radio went out, checked fuses all were fine. Don't know if problems are related but now (a...

This looks like you have the fuel tank vacuum. When is in repaus, the tank is sucking some air. When you start the engine, the fuel pump is sucking the fuel from tank and if this don't have a breathing hole or if this is clog or obturated then the fuel pump cannot **** anymore fuel and the engine stops. If you let it for a period of time alone then the tank might **** some air but not enough, so the engine will start but the simptome will show again. I had this simptomes with my car. Try to remove the fuel tank cap and see if you can drive more than 6-7 miles. If so, then the special breathing air hole in the fuel tank is clog. Identify it and clean it. I am not so sure about this problem but is just an ideea. Might be helpfull, who knows? Otherwise should be a PCM problem. In this case you should make a computer test. Good luck!

Thinking I may have a bad fuel pump fuse. Truck died a whole bunch of idiot lights came on now hard to start and keep running could a fuse be the problem? or is it the filter?. Pump is fine. Gas is good...

It wouldn't be the fuse. The fuel filter would be the best bet, especially if it has been changed for a while. Should be changed every 12,000-20,000 miles.

92 dodge b250 runs fine then after 5-6 miles it will start acting llike its not getting any gas and backfire threw carb just put new fuel filter and fuel pump relay on it and it still does it

This happens when the fuel pump is getting bad. I will recommend you do a replacement.

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank which can be reached by removal of the back seat.

Be careful and ensure the replacement has the same rating with the old one.

Good luck and remember to rate this solution.

1995 Plymouth Acclaim Won't Start

It is most likely the fuel pump. pouring gas down the throttle body will not start it, it will just flood it. try spraying a carb cleaner in the throttle body in short 1 or 2 second bursts while some one else cranks it, it should start.
