Yes it could well possibly be the ignition switch or starter solenoid or intermittent ignition switch starter contact.Again check connections on battery especially the ground connection at the block.Also there could be air in the fuel line any of these could be hindering start up!
check power on large yellow wire from ignition swith while turning key to start possition,this is the wire that powers the solenoid to starter.also may try tapping on starter with hammer while someone is trying to start.If starts while performing tap method you will need a starter. If no power to yellow wire at ign switch while starting will need electrical part of ignition.
The starter has one large cable from the battery positive, and a wire that goes to the solenoid (Part of the starter) that becomes hot when the key ignition is turned to start. This also passes through the neutral safety switch. (So it wont start in gear) Not sure if this is what you need, a little vague.
