So the story goes, I was driving my car all day, stopped to get gas just before I arrived at home, had to leave again about an hour later. I turned my key and the car made 2 clicking noises, which was an every start up thing, but nothing else, I turned the key off and tried to start the car a few more times with no success. I turned the key off and the engine began to turn over with the key off. I quickly removed the key and the engine continued to try and turn over, I put the key back in the ignition and turned it on. The engine then stopped trying to turn over, I tried a few more times after that, and it continued to turn over by itself when i put the key to the off position as well as with the key out. After a few times trying the engine finally turned over, I turned the car off to try again as a test, and from then on the engine will not turn over. Every time I try and start the car now it makes 2 clicking noises, a few humming noises, one from the alternator and one from the fuel pump. Any advice would be grateful Thanks
You either have a bad solenoid on your starter OR a bad ignition switch as these are the only two things that can cause the symptom you describe... I lean to the solenoid first, RARELY does an ignition switch sieze up in the start position but it is a possibility. Several national chain parts stores can test the starter for you (GM starters have the starter solenoid mounted directly to the starter and you need to remove the starter to get to it, so you would take the whole unit in to test it... REMEMBER to disconnect the battery first!)
My car was trying to start by its self while i was in my living room , ran out with a key, turned it off, it started one time but the starter keeps trying to start the car, smelled rubber or wire smoking, that went away and now the car wont start, i can jump start is with a screw driver crossing the solenoid to the starters other wire start right up when the key is in the on possition

obviously the altenator is running to earth inside ,could be a rectifier diode .change altenator and recharge battery
Car
not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can
be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it
can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or
no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition
coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.
To
confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.
