Factory radio wont work

I had an aftermarket stereo installed. My alternator went out and 4 weeks later my radio just stopped working. I put in the stock radio and I to wouldn't power on. I've checked all my fuses and they all work. I have no idea what's wrong.

Make sure the wires for the new radio are color to color when installing it in your vehicle aka the wires behind the CD player. Make sure all of them have connectors not the black tape cause it will melt and could cause a fire.

SOURCE: My radio in my 05' Honda pilot stopped working.

In my case the solution was a fuse on the passenger side inside fuse box. It is not listed as a fuse for the radio but it is none the less. If your cigarette lighter isn't working either its the fuse. On my 2004 it was fuse # 9 a 15A fuse.

SOURCE: My dash lights don't work.

this got easy after a while 2 ways, i had friends who would not take the time to spend 8dollars to buy a harness connector for a new cd player and would splice everything together like takeing the red and yellow wires and connecting them all together as one. this drains ur battery unless ur cd player can completly power down by the power button not all do... but keep this in mind on GM cars the 2 wires of the same wires like purple the one with a black stripe is ground they go together stripe on stripe also there is 2 extra wires one is ORANGE and BROWN u dont need these dont even mess with them even if u have a connector block them off THESE TWO COLORS IS FOR FACTORY STEREO IF SO THESE WIRES CAN AND WILL MAKE IT SO U DONT HAVE DASH LIGHTS so always buy a connector ond dont mess with these wires block them off and dont ground them out.

Is it factory stereo or aftermarket? If its aftermarket it theres a fuses usually on the unit its self. If it's original I would suggest checking all your fuses because you never know what it could be tied into.

Thebestplayert@269My Factory Radio display has stop working. But it still plays sound. Can i replace this with an aftermarket stereo or do i need to buy the same stereo that is in it now?

First make sure the key is pushed all the way in the ignition, I have had other cars that if the key was not pushed in all the way the radio display would not work. If this is not the problem, I would replace the radio with an updated aftermarket radio/cd/mp3 player. I have a newer Grand Marquis and the radio went out so I priced used replacement radios and they cost as much as an aftermarket radio. You can find these at any car salvage yard (junk yard). A used radio would be easier to install as you would just have to plug it in using the same cables in the back. To install an aftermarket radio you will need one or two adapter cables and will require splicing wires. I have installed quite a few radios and I opted to do it myself. You can have the radio installed by a dealer but installation cost run from $75.00 to $125.00 depending on type of car and radio. If choosing an aftermarket radio make sure the look will fit the car. You may not like the look of something with widly glowing LED lights a few month down the road. I am very pleased with the unit I purchased as it looks more like an OEM radio and doesn't shout steal me at car thieves. I can play mp3's and plug in both ipods and other compatible electronics.

Hi steve61380, If there are any aftermarket electronics installed in the vehicle like stereo equipment (cd changers, amps etc.), or an HHO cell, or performance electronics like high energy ignition system they could be overloading the stock alternator. Hope this helps.

Please rate my advise.

98 plymouth voyager radio wont work. comes in as static. am works fine.

First start with pulling out the radio and make sure the antenna wire is plugged in. The last owner might have had an aftermarket radio in it and when they put the factory one back, forgot a wire. To remove it remove the trim ring (two screws I think) and then the radio screws.

Installing an aftermarket stereo, spliced the wires and have everything connected including the remote wire to the factory amp wire but still no sound.

There is no remote wire on these newer trucks....03 and up....u have to buy the harness....although i didnt....i have an 03 gmc sierra and just pulled the schematic and matched the wires. And there is no programming to do on an aftermarket stereo.....I work for GMC and we cant program aftermarket stereos......if u buy the right harness ...and its over $100 then everything should work just fine.....and this does not disarm ur alarm system either....mine still works fine....hope this helps

What are the two plugs on the back of the factory radio

Power for memory, power when key on or accesories, etc, then all the speaker wires. Have you stopped at a stereo sales place, or autoparts place and asked for an adapter harness to go from your vehicle to an aftermarket stereo? It will make it much easier, much cleaner in case of removal later & will probably save a big headache too.
