You have a vacuum leak! Defrost is the default position. You need to find vent vacuum lines on passenger side near firewall under hood or under dash.

  • Anonymous Apr 24, 2009

You need to locate your a/c cannister (under hood). Its most likely a short cylindrical shape. There should be two small vacuum lines. Follow those lines to your firewall and to the other side (passenger side) Check for leaks. It is possible you might need to remove part or all of your dash board. Its a tiny problem that can sometimes be a ***** to fix.

I have a 2002 Toyota Camry. My inside blower fan will not blow out at the floor any longer. It will only blow out from the front vents and the defrost.

You're as correct as you need to be on the situation. These blend doors/flaps that cover the openings of air flow, are all vacuum actuated and you have a problem with the actuator motors that open and close said doors. It could possibly be the switch/valve itself malfunctioning also.

My 05 Z71 tahoe blows air out of the front defrost vents no matter what setting its on. Also my check engine light is on.

The first thing I would do is have the computer checked for trouble codes. The codes will point you in the right direction to look for the problem. The codes may be for something other than the vent problem.
The air is directed thru the heater core and evaporator core and also to the correct vents by blend doors in the ductwork under the dash. They are usually controlled by small electric motors.

I replaced the ac compressor a 97 Chevy Lumina 3.1 and everything is working right. The air is blowing through defrost vents but it is not blowing through front vents. Its a vacuum line loose that is...

The ball is a vacuum tank. It would take the active vacuum line on one side and the other would go to the vacuum line that leads to your ventilation controls. Connect a length of vacuum hose to either side and BLOW through it. If you can't blow through it, that's the side that goes to the engine since it would have a check valve to prevent the vacuum from escaping when the engine is off. If you can blow through both sides, then it doesn't matter which hose goes to which side.

Sounds like the flap valve in your vent system that allows air to go to the defrosters is either jammed or broken. Unfortunately you will have to take the vent system apart to look.

Air wont blow out of the front vents only the defrost vents

Not sure about your exact model but a lot of these are vacuum actuated. If one of the vac lines is broken, leaking or disconnected this will happen. Maybe take look under the dash to see if something is obvious while you try to switch it - look and listen, good luck.
