SOURCE: hooking up wires to battery, solenoid, altornater and starter

hi from the uk if you look at startermotor solenoid you will see two large threaded terminals with nuts? and a third small terminal either spade or round terminal ok? now you should see thet one of large terminals already has a metal or braides strap secured to it and the actual startermotor body? LEAVE THIS ALONE the other large terminal is the one you fit the positive+ lead to from battery also there should be another lead to also attach to same terminal this one supplies power for vehicles electrics etc ensure you secure these with nut ok? now the third small spade or post terminal you will hav a thin wire nearby ?this attaches to thisterminal on its own on solenoid this wire is the one that activates starter when ignition is turned to key start position ok? as for interior light not working ? try again when you complete the above also make sure bulb is ok? ps! before you reconnect starter wires ensure the earth/ground lead is disconnected from battery and when reconnecting battery connect positive lead first then the earth lead or if you try other way you will have sparking from pos lead as you try connecting to battery hope this info is clear instructios for you to follow and wish you luck best wishes from england

SOURCE: Wiring Diagram 1998 Chevy S-10 starter replacement

The starter has one large cable from the battery positive, and a wire that goes to the solenoid (Part of the starter) that becomes hot when the key ignition is turned to start. This also passes through the neutral safety switch. (So it wont start in gear) Not sure if this is what you need, a little vague.

Replaced the starter in my 3.8 windstar, when hooked battery back up, starter engaged! put a spacer on the power wire due to it hitting the ignition wire. now i turn the key on and the only power i get is...

You could have fried a fuseable link in the harness which is a wire that acts like a fuse. You may need to get a book with wiring diagrams and start testing. You need to know if all of the fuses and ignition switch terminals have power with the key on.

Schematics Diagram

vehicles dont use capacitor on starters and really they have done away with most all capacitors on vehicles since they were able to isolate interference in the altenator. a capacitor takes energy in and slowly releases energy or at one time alot when needed if your talking about a great big cylinder thing that sits on top of starter its called a selinoid it has a coil of wire inside that cause a electro magnet inside it to throw the armature starting gear out to fly wheel. there should be only 3 posts on it or only 2 one large post for battery cable and any other accessory that needs constant power and one or two small posts hook the ignition wire to one of the posts and all other wires to other small post if only one small post hook all the small wires to the small post and the larger wires to the large post

I need a starter switch wiring diagram..

It's probably your starter solenoid that is stuck on. Older fords had this solenoid or relay located on the passenger fender apron, but I think on your '95 model, it is located on the starter motor itself.

There are copper contact points or buttons inside the solenoid. Yours must have stuck together. Pretty simple fix: pull the starter off and change the solenoid.

1977 ford f 100 solenode mounted on starter

so did this problem just happen or did you do some wiring repairs??. on a 1977 the only solenoid should be the fender. I dont have a wiring diagram that old. if it just happened there is a small wire on the solenoid on the fender, unhook this wire, and see if it happens again. if the starter does not engage then you may have a ign switch problem, if it still engages then the solenoid is bad.

Subaru ea81 starter solenoid wiring diagram

Some starter solenoids are mounted on the fender near the battery and some are on the starter itself.

Typically the ones mounted on the fender have two larger posts and one smaller post. For the larger posts: One connects strait to the positive post on the battery. The other connects strait to the starter. The smaller post connects to the neutral safety switch which connects to the start position of the ignition switch. Here is a diagram. Make sure the solenoid is grounded good.

For the solenoid that is mounted on the starter: Connect the positive post of the battery to the large post on the starter. Connect smaller neutral safety switch/ignition switch wire to the smaller post.

Here is a diagram if you have both solenoids

Don't forget to hook backup any other wires that were hooked to the positive side of battery/solenoid like alternator wire etc.
