SOURCE: Key fobs will not function.

  • The first thing is to make sure the battery was a good one. Cheap batteries will not do for an FOB.
  • Make sure there is no corrosion on the terminals that connect to the battery inside the FOB.
  • I am surprised that the FOB worked after replacing the batteries. The S Type usually need a reprogramming. You may need the dealer for this but I do know how to program a FOB for an S Series Jaguar.
  1. Turn the ignition on and off ( don't start the car, just put the ignition clear forward and back) 8 times with in a 10 second time frame. This will put the security system into programming mode.
  2. Now push any button on the FOB transmitter you want the system to recognize.
  3. Now switch off the ignition.
  4. Repeat for each FOB transmitter you want to program.
  • Should the reprogramming not work the you may need have the FOB(s) replaced or repaired from the dealership. Jaguar S Type Jaguar FOBS have had their issues with static electricity knocking the programming out and at times ruining them.

Proton s16 key fob doesn't turn the ignition over after replacing the battery in the key fob

For your remote key fob to work properly, it has to be connected to a receiver in the vehicle. When the battery in the fob is replaced, it can sometimes interfere with the paired connection between key and car, in which case you'll need to reset it.

I have a 2006 Jeep grand Cherokee my key fob alarm stopped working put a new battery in it what else can I do

The key fob will need to be reprogrammed to the vehicle since when the battery was replaced in the key fob, the key was reset. This is why nothing is working with the key fob. After replacing the battery in the key fob remote, you will need to reprogram the remote to the vehicle

Cannot lock the car with the key fob when outside of the car

But it does lock the doors with the fob when you are inside the car? Or does the fob not work ever?
What car? How old is the fob?
Depending on the age of the car and the complexity of the key fob, you may be able to replace the battery yourself, or you may have to go to the dealer for reprogramming.

My key will not start my car, then it wouldn't open the door

This model year comes equipped with Keyless Enter-N-Go, which uses an electronic transmitter in the key fob to communicate with the car. The vehicle's doors will not unlock and the vehicle will not start if the key fob is not matched to the vehicle or if the commonly-available watch battery in the key fob has been depleted. The EVIC will flash a message upon vehicle startup if it determines that the battery in your key fob is low on charge and should be replaced.

To open the doors, try the following:

1. Use the spare key fob that came with the vehicle. If the battery in your main key fob is depleted, the spare key fob's battery may still retain charge due to its much more occasional use.

2. The key fob comes with an emergency key inside of it. To remove the emergency key, slide the mechanical latch on the back of the key fob sideways with your thumb and then pull the key out with your other hand. This key will allow you to unlock the driver's side door and glove compartment. It will not start the vehicle.

To start the car with a severely-depleted key fob battery, try the following:

1. In case the ignition switch does not change with the push of a button, the RKE transmitter (Key Fob) may have a low or dead battery. In this situation a back-up method can be used to operate the ignition switch. Put the nose side (side opposite of the emergency key) of the Key Fob against the ENGINE START/STOP button and push to operate the ignition switch.

To replace the battery in your key fob, try the following:

1. Remove the emergency key from the key fob following the directions above.

2. Using a vinyl spudger tool or a flat-bladed screwdriver, gently pry the two halves of the key fob apart at the indented slot above the slot for the emergency key.

3. Replace the depleted battery with a new battery. Use the depleted battery to visually match the size. The battery is usually available wherever watch or hearing-aid batteries are sold.

4. Snap the key fob back together and replace the emergency key. If the issue is a depleted battery, your key fob should operate normally.

If the issue is not related to the state of the battery, you will probably need to contact your local dealer for service.

Fob key wont work just replaced battery in fob and keys wont lock manually either, car has been standing for awhile.

Key fobs can be tricking and even something as simple as changing the battery can cause some issues. The good news is there are a few tricks to try before you panic.

1) The old car battery reset trick
I know this sounds absurd, but it works sometimes and is worth trying. If you exhausted all of the options above, disconnect bot terminals on your car battery for 10 minutes. Then reconnect them and try your key fob. This has worked for many people and I have no idea why. If you do, please comment below to explain.

2) Get it checked
Go to your local hardware store like AutoZone or Oreilly's. They usually have a RF frequency tester. This little gadget will let you know if your key fob is sending a signal. If it is, you may need to reprogram your key fob to your vehicle

3) Make sure the battery in the key fob is installed correctl
Try turning the battery upside down. If you have the positive end on the negative terminal it is not going to work.

Hopefully one of these tips will get the key fob working again. If not you can always purchase a replacement key fob online from

How do you charge the key fob.. The message on the dash saya that the key fob battery is low.

The key fob does not get charged. Instead you replace the battery inside the Fob. if you look behind the fob it tells you what battery it needs for replacement. CR2032
