Help !!!!. I have a 1997 Range Rover 4.6 HSE. After leaving it standing for a while the battery went flat. I disconnected the battery and charged it fully. When I reconnected it to the car all of the doors locked and the remote wouldn't work. I unlocked it manually using the key but when I opened the drivers door all hell broke loose. The only way I could stop the alarm was to disconnect the battery again. when I looked at the display during this pandemonium it said key lock out. I have tried the unlock once and lock 5 times the lock etc. Also tied the unlock with the unlock button pressed the locked with the lock button pressed. Nothing worked. Can someone please help !!!

Some one brought his vehicle to me the other day with same problem. What i did was connected the battery and got inside locked the doors and removed the main fuse. This reseted the ordeal somehow. When i got outside i locked the door again and that was that. No alarm. How ever, i did install a new battery to the handset and tried again without any problems. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 1996 4.0 Range Rover won't unlock

This car is in super lock mode... when you press remote 2times to lock or when you lock with remote and try to unlock using key manually.

there is a 4 digit number to open the door, its like opening a safe, starting from the left(key in car door) it goes L/R/L/R. so if number code is 1234..... left 1, right 2, left 3, right 4.

or if this too troublesome you can ask landrover dealer to remove the KEYCODE.

happy trying.....

SOURCE: HELP ME WITH MY 2000 Range Rover!

Prob your RF reciver. Change it for about £130 ish. Make sure your access code works before the change to avoid confusion. Use part YWY 500 170 only.
If you can't get the £££ unplug the RF reciver (behind rear NS passenger seat) and use the key manualy. Good luck.

SOURCE: battery went flat now wont take key code in

key code lock out usually happens when you have entered the wrong code too many times leaving the battery connected should allow the timer to run down for 30 mins so you can try again, it is cumulative though so the more you get it wrong the longer you have to wait. make sure battery is fully charged first.

I cannot get into my Range Rover HSE as the battery is out of power

You might be able to get under the car and connect jumper cables to the starter to charge the battery. Anything bigger than 12 gauge wire would do it.

2003 Range Rover HSE shut off while going down the road. The battery light came on about 30 miles before.

Your alternator has went out. The engine shut off because it drained the battery and had no power left to run it.

Unfortunately, there is a trick to replacing the battery.
1) Open the Driver side door.
2) Open the Bonnet and take the battery cover off.
3) Use your remote to lock and unlock the car (keeping the driver side door open)
4) Pull the Negative Lead from the battery first, followed by the Positive Lead.
5) Change or replace with charged battery.
6) Closed down Bonnet.
7) Your windows, sunroof, and key FOB will not work... so follow the next steps.

7a) Insert your key, with door closed into the exterior lock on driver's side.
7b) While turning the key to lock the door, hold down the "lock" button on your remote for 5 seconds while in "lick" position
7c) Your remote will reset, and you should be able to use your remote now
7d) While driving, roll each window down twice. On your third attempt, you should only have to touch the window button, and the window will have reset

Range Rover 4.6 HSE. 97' 1. What does HSE

The HSE designation refers to a Sport Edition 'Rover, not a higher-priced premium edition.
Changing fuel grades can harm an engine that doesn't have computer controlled valve timing.
Symptoms include a pronounced, fast "knock" (usually when you go from 93 to 87 octane) and using a fuel with a higher octane rating than the vehicle requires (example: 93 versus 87) sends unburned fuel into the emissions system and catalytic converter. This puts stress on the emissions system. For some vehicles, a rotten egg smell or a pop when the fuel burns off in the catalytic converter coming from the tailpipe signals use of higher than needed octane gas.
