The tailgate on my 2003 Volvo XC90 wont close because the locking mechanism closed while the tailgate was open and is obstructed from closing around the post. I have tried locking and unlocking the doors from the controls on the driver door, but the mechanism will not change positions.

Once you take the whole tailgate apart, you may find the current latch mechanism is only jammed, and with some lubrication and/or bending or adjustment, it may still work.
However, it may need replacement to fix the problem.
God bless your efforts.

SOURCE: The tailgate lock on my Volvo XC90 is sticking,

Try spraying into the lock mechanism with a spray lube like WD40. Work it right into the lock and don't be shy about how much. Work the latch a few times and spray it again. If this works it is only temporary. Get some white lithium grease and take the panel off and lube the latch up with that for the long term. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: volvo xc90 rear hatch door closed and won't open

Hold the hatch hard closed into its frame whilst pulling on the release handle. The mechanism on most cars consists a grab/release on the door and a simple metal hop at the bottom of the frame. Over time the hoop can become loose and move slightly inwards each time the door is shut. The door seal rubbers push back on the door surround putting a lot of tension against the grab/release mechanism preventing it from releasing. By pressing on the door and compressing the rubber surround you will take the pressure off the release mechanism and allow it to open when you pull on the handle. Once the door hatch is open, loosen the mounting bolts to the metal hoop and move it out about 10mm. Tighten the mounting bolts. Shut the door gently as a trial close and check for security of fit. If very slack, ease the hoop inwards a couple of millimetres. When happy, tighten the mounting bolts securely. draw around the hoop mount with indelible ink so if it moves in future you have early visual warning and can remount it easily

My Volvo XC90 air condition is working but on the drivers side only but not on the passenger side. What's wrong with it?

The 'Blend Door Actuators' have failed, or the Blend Door mechanism has become unlatched. The blend door opens and closes to direct air to the right place.

I have a 2005 xc90 and this morning after I opened the tailgate, I couldn't get it to fully close. It closed but not all the way. It was only 16 degrees. I was able to lock it but it would still open

Make sure your alarm isn't armed. In many car door latches, there is a metal piece the 'closes' around the pin. If 'piece' can be flipped to the closed position with the door open, and then when you slam the door, it does not latch.

You can try taking the handle out and fishing the rods up to the opening. Other than that, its a tough job.

Looking for advice on how to replace tailgate

You open the tail gate and there is bilts on the bottom inbetween the gate and the truck it self. If there is not bolts in there than look at the bottom with the gate closed and once you find them take the shocks off of the gate and than take the gate down

Power window on XC90 wont stay up on 'auto-up'??

Put the window down all the way and then hold the switch up, hold it until the window closes all the way up, and continue to hold it for about 10 sec. after the window is closed. Try this a few times, but if this does not work you will will probably have to take it to the dealer. They will have to do this for you with the Volvo computer scanner, this is covered under warranty if you are still with in by millage if not they will charge around 50 dollars.
