Dodge stratus A/C compressor shot belt broke want to replace with bypass pulley due to money issues. Does the compressor operate anything on heating system?

It is possible. What you have to do is gat a belt for a vehicle that has the same engine as your car but with out A/C. It will have to be a Chevy or some other GM brand other than Cadillac. You cannot get a Caddy without A/C. I would go to a junk yard and look under the hood of a few cars. Some times even though the engines are the same the acessories may be in different places. When you find something with the same engine and acessories in the same place and no A/C just get a new belt for that car and put it on yours. You may have to remove your A/C compressor to make this work. Good Luck.

yeah its seized up[ and they dont make a repair kit for that one either. they have at most auto parts stores an ac bypass pulley . its a bracket and pulley so you can bypass the factory ac unit and still run the factory belt. but if you decide to change the ac unit there are 5 bolts holding the unit down .have the system evacuated.loosen belt and drop down out of your way. take the ac lines off the compressor and set aside . there are two bolts on top in front and there are 3 bolts in back on top tieing together a triangle shape mounting plate , take all 5 loose and out.disconnect ac wires (snap clip) lift , lightly pry off old ac unit.set aside and reverse the procedure to install your new or salvage yard ac unit. refrigerant chargers can be purchased from wall mart ( there cheaper) at $30. roughly 2 1/2 cans will completely fill the system just follow on label instructions. its all easy to do if you can use wrenches and have a little knowledge. and you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself. and save a bunch of $ along the way.

Before all this.Check the spring loaded tensioner hasn't seized.If the chirping sound IS the a/c comp. and the bypass pulley is on,yes,the a/c is out of the picture.Plan B might be to get a comp. from a wreckers yard.1/4 the price???Hope this helps you

simple trick provided you can do this by running some twine around your pulleys allowing for1-2 inches less for slack adjuster an that will pretty close.or they may have for that system without ac meaning the condenser unit.

Dont do it. Get it fixed. Engine components are there for a reason. Unless you dont like your car. Do it properly.
