If your engine light came on, the engine module could have stored a code.
You need to have a scanner to check what code it is and that will point you toward the solution.
Possible causes could be (crank sensor, tps sensor or oxygen sensor).
Don't go replacing parts until you scan the vehicle for codes first.

Unit has a draw somewhere that needs to be addressed. I have found the auto starts sometimes can cause this. But if the draw is through the negative side it could be tough. You should take it to the dealer and have them perform a draw test on the entire vehicle.

Check the Fuel Pump Relay, it may be malfunctioning and need replaced. Also, in some vechicles, if the batter is disconnected and reconnected, the service engine light will come on from time to time, going off and on simultaneously. Have a diagnostics done to see if any codes show up. If no codes appear, then have them all cleared and drive for another 200 miles. Sometimes the computer will need to be cleared a couple times before the light will stay off. Make sure that all fuses and relays are good, and securey in place. Check all factory installed lights to make sure they are good, and securly in place as well.

SOURCE: 2002 jeep liberty speedometer stopped working

I had similar problem with my 2002 Jeep Liberty when it was new. Speedometer went crazy when I turned on the heater. As i turned up the level of air, the speedometer was directly affected. Turned out it was a loose grounding wire in the dash, and the air pressure from the heater caused it to move and lose grounding. I would guess you have a loose wire somewhere. But on the plus side, you aren't putting as many miles on your odometer...

The flashing light indicates you have a big misfire that could damage the catalytic converter.. Being you were going uphill (under high load) this would indicate an ignition issue. You may have a bad coil or wires or a bad spark plug. The reason you could only go 30mph was because the computer was put in limp mode. This is a stratagy to prevent excessive damage to components. , Get it checked out ASAP

Black smoke from exhaust on a 2004 jeep liberty and the check engine light is on

The first thing you should do is to check your air filter to see if it is clogged. Locate your jeeps air filter and remove it. You will need to pop the clips off using a screw driver to be able to open the top. Take a close look at your air filter. Is it very dirty? If there is a lot of dirt on your air filter then this is the likely cause of your problem. When your air filter is dirty it will not allow enough air through to the engine causing your air/fuel mixture to burn rich causing the black smoke.

You can pick up a new air filter from any auto parts store. Once you have your new air filter in place, replace the cover and reattach the clips.

If your air filter is not dirty then your fuel injection system is where we need to look next. One of your sensors could be bad. The sensors that will be the most likely to cause black smoke is your Throttle Position Sensor, Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor and/or The Mass Air Flow Sensor. Typically black smoke indicates that the engine is getting too much fuel. Be sure they repair it before you purchase.

Hope this helps (remember to rating this answer and leave some testimonial).

Engine light on, 47,800 miles, first owner

First check should be to confirm all fluids are full... On this model, a diagnostic check can be accomplished at some of your local parts stores for free...Auto Zone is one that does this for free...be subjective when reviewing possible code explanations:)

Why does the engine light keep glaring when I drive? I just recently had a tune-up on my 2001 jeep. I know I need an air filter and belt. Any Help??

Take it to Autozone and get an engine diagnostics done. They have a scanner that will give you the code that is causing your check engine light to come on. you can troubleshoot from there.

My guess is that the speed sensor has gone out or the wires that go to it have been knocked off somehow.

2006 Jeep Liberty sporatice warning signals

I had the same problem with my 2006 Jeep Liberty Renegade. I shared with the Jeep service tech what I found on the internet regarding this problem. I was having the gas cap sensor to display and soon after other sensors were lighting and dinging and some times dinging without any indicator and vice versa. the service tech said he was not aware of any such complaints and recommended a diagnostic which found no trouble codes and recommended to change to the gas cap. I did so and no sooner than paying almost $100 for the service and returning home the same thing started happening again. I returned my vehicle and they called the Chrysler/Jeep service tech who obviously was aware of these complaints [Service Bulletin #14-001-06] and recommended the following: A complete system reboot. Disconnect the battery cables and short together for 15 seconds. If message returns then the problem may be with cluster. I have not had any dinging or gas-cap sensor display since this was done.

Coolant Temp Sensor

The sensor is located on the drivers side engine block...although you can see if from looking from the top of the engine, you would have to get under the vehicle and look up to replace it. Be aware that it takes a special tool to unscrew the old one and screw in the replacement.
