There is an electric solenoid in the steering column on the right side that actuates the brake/shift interlock. I have had them fail and they can be removed, but you might want to double-check that the switch is operating correctly at the brake pedal first before opening up the column.

Smart car kangaroos and stops when I am trying to get out of tight car park. I may be activating the hill assist brake by holding foot brake pedal?

Hello again,

Please note that the Smart car is equipped with an auto brake system where if you remove your foot off the brake pedal , it will not disengage till you press the gas pedal , other wise you might have a problem .
Please try with out having your foot over the brake pedal and get back to us.

Shifter stuck in park

Are the brake lights working, the safety lock on the gearshift is operated by the brake lights, if they don't work you can't get it out of park. Sequence is turn on ignition, put foot on foot brake (brake lights come on, park lock disengages). Check the brake light fuse.

1998 cadillac deville stuck in park

Simple thing is that the brake sensor is not reading that you have you foot on the brake pedal. Not sure where it is on your Caddy, however. Check to see if your brake lights come on, on some cars I believe the two were connected.

Can't get can outof park

check that your brake pedal sensor is clicking when you hit the pedal if its not than its either bad or just stuck. if you have a automatic transmission and you hit the brake pedal you should hear a click in the shifter to disengage park if you dont you need a new switch

Honda transmission stuck in park

In all probability the brake sensor on the pedal is starting to work erratically. This sensor sends a signal to the shifter gate, and the gate will not open unless the brake pedal is depressed. I had it happen to me, and the only solution until i replaced the sensor was to hit the brake over and over until the stop light worked. If the stop lights work, the shifter gate should allow the shifter to move out of park. This sensor/ switch is located about 3 inches above the brake pedal, and it is easily recognizable by the cable attached to it.

I have a jaguar xj8 and the gear got stuck in park ,and I can't put it in reverse or drive. How can I fix this problem

Most likely the lock out switch at the brake pedal is at fault, because in order to put it in in to any gear you have to step on the brake first ! Their is a switch located which prevents you put it in gear with out stepping on the brake pedal, so check this switch first.
