Jack the car up and put it on safety stands, then remove the rear wheel of the bearing u are replacing, put a drain pan under the center of the diff and remove the cover, remove the retaining bolt for the center pin that is between the spider gears or the posi clutch packs, (if u have positraction) remove the center spring (posi) and then remove the axle "C" clips, pull the axle(s) out and press new bearing into case or on to axle as required, reassemble in reverse order, use silicone rubber sealer (permatex is best) on diff cover, fill with correct 80-90W positraction gear oil and add one bottle of friction modifier (Ford or aftermarket ok), fill to just below the plug (about one finger joint below) on side of center housing. That was easy.

My 2009 Mustang is making a clunking noise from the rear driver side wheel, recently the wheel bearings were changed at a Ford dealership could they have screwed this up

Oh yeah, the definitely could have forgotten to put gear oil back in the rear. Pull the plug on the rear that's on the back of the differential center about half way up and stick your little finger in and curl it down to see if there's any in it.

How to change a rear wheel bearing on a 2004 ford taurus???

How to Replace Rear Wheel Bearing/Hub Assembly on a 2nd generation Taurus

The following procedure is for a Ford Taurus (VIN S), with rear drum brakes and ABS.

1. Loosen wheel lug nuts, raise rear of vehicle, and support securely on jack stands. Block front wheels and remove rear wheels.

2. Remove brake drum (parking brake must be off).

3. Remove and clean ABS Sensor (Torx E8) with a spritzled rag.

4. Remove grease cap from hub.

5. Remove and discard hub retaining nut (36 mm). This is a compound nut, comprised of several nuts inside a metal cage. Use a 36 mm axle nut socket (e.g., OEM 25206). Many auto parts stores will lend you this socket. A 1/2-inch drive air impact wrench or breaker bar is necessary to remove the nut.

6. Remove wheel bearing/hub assembly from spindle. It easily comes off by hand.

7. Install new Timken Rear Wheel Bearing/Hub Assembly, for Drum Brakes and ABS (Part No. 512162). Tighten new axle spindle nut (Dorman 05114) 221 lb.-ft., replace grease cap, and button everything up.

I have movement in the rear wheels on a 2003 Ford Mustang.Do I need to change the wheel bearings? How do I remve the hub?

Sounds as though your bearing could be bad, does your Differential have a cover on the back ?If so you'll have to remove it and remove the retainer rings (1) on each side of the inner axel .Then you should be able to remove the axels, but still may have to remove the Brake back cover also .Notice how much gear lube is left in the housing when you remove the cover . Don't forget to also replace the dust seals as well .

Rear Axel Seal

Wheel, brakes etc that are in way of pulling axle out have to come off. Drain rear end fluid, remove rear housing cover, remove bolt that holds pin in differential, remove differential pin, push in slightly on axle to remove "U" clip that holds shaft in, then slide shaft out. replace seal. Reverse procedure for re-install & fill with gear lube. If any questions, get back to us.
