You need to eliminate one thing at a time and this is how . inspect the oil cap where you put oil into your car and make sure there is no white discolouration build up on the underside of the cap (if there is this can indicate water has mixed with the oil head-gasket leaking )the water pump can be checked after the car has been running for a few mins by feeling any rubber water hoses going to and from the radiator both should be about the same temp . The fan will come into play after the motor has reached a higher temp and can be seen spinning if not they are at fault .a inspection of the water reserve tank should prove to be clean and not contain any oily build up if so it might be contaminated by oil ( head gasket leaking ) you may need to flush the coolant system mainly the radiator by using a chemical wash to help unblock any build up .

Check your oil dipstick for coolant, or a mucky substance. Your symptoms sound like a blown head gasket.

Did you bleed the air out of the system after replacing the thermostat?

The other cause for over heating can be head gaskets. I agree that you mentioned head gasket checked ok, but still get it rechecked. You might still consider having a mechanic perform a leak test at the radiator cap with a special tool.
Next wuld be to check if the radiator fan is turning on. A fast way to do that is by unplugging the two-wire coolant temperature sensor while the ignition switch is on. That should cause the fan to run. If it does not, there might be a blown fuse for the fan. The best way to diagnose it is by using the DRB3 scanner to command the fan to run. ---------
If this checked out ok and still there is overheating problem. Then check if thermostat is opening.--------
If its not opening then yes car will overheat, even you replaced the thermostat, click this link below to troubleshoot thermostat problem even after its replaced:---
