Porsche PCM Radio & CD Changer Fault.

I sent my 2002 C4 into Porsche Service centre for a routine service & a battery change. The car has been returned to me with a faulty PCM, which Porsche say the fault occurring on the PCM is a coincidence and has nothing to do with the work they have done on the car, even the PCM was working upon delivery to them. The PCM is on, all functions appear to work, ie the Sat Nav works, not sure if integrated phone works to be honest, but I get no CD changer detected when I select CD, and the radio is stuck on Medium Wave, and no sound from the speakers. The radio won't change to FM, and although stuck on MW, it won't scan frequencies for any stations. Having returned the car to Porsche, they confirm it is faulty, not that they know what the fault is, and they won't accept it became broken whilst in their care. They tell me I have to buy a new one. I find this completely unfair, and feel badly treated by Porsche. Is there a guru out there who may have seen these symptoms and knows a fix? Or am I really stuck with taking a hit on my pocket and purchase a new unit? I know nothing about cars or electrics, and that's why I've always taken my car to Porsche for servicing. It's a very well looked after car with only 18k on the clock.

Thank in advance for your time and attention.

Paul.

We were very glad to find your note. We had the battery renewed and then loudspeakers are silent and it is not possible to get a station tuned at th radio. Also the CDchangeris not found. All the other things works correct, but silent. Did you find out the problem yet?

The same situation happened to me after leaving my C2 2003 at the Porsche Dealership for repairs. I get to use the radio including presets and navigation but CD changer is not detected. When I complained about this before leaving the dealership they told me that they had nothing to do with the fault and basically just felt sorry for me. What I did notice is that all of the sudden an alarm comes up when ever I exceed 100km /h per hour so I can only assume that someone was messing around with the system. Very frustrated. Anthony

Paul it really sounds as if that dealer is trying to stroke u....my suggestion would to call porshe and find out who the district manager or manager of the stores in ur city or even county and tell him or her of ur problem... and how u feel about this problem.. and ask why a car would be returned to u in worse condition than when u took it there... its very possible that the change of the battery wasnt done correctly and may have blown ur ecu... id get in contact with the district service manager (dsm) as soon as possible..u paid alot of money for this car and for its service.. and should be entitled to quality work performance..

911 4S year 2004 (only 16000mls) I have read input on the PCM freezing, I have the same problem and been told by Porsche Service centre it is not their problem and I should buy a new unit. I managed to unfreeze by reset but the problem keeps coming back. Anybody with a remedy?

This could actually be a fault in the quite a few different modules.
It could be the centre console buttons, or even the main module.
Unfortunately you need to get VAG-COM or VCDS to see the error codes.
I used a Ross-Tech cable and determined the issue was a failed module.
Any VW, Audi or Porsche service place can connect in and see what the car is reporting.

But this may be best to let Porsche run diagnostics.
Also if it is a module, dealerships tend to have to replace them.
As second hand modules have a CP protection lock on them.

2002 mercury mountaineer six cd changer will not play, load or eject.

Unfortunately that is an internal issue with the player itself. You will probably have to take it into the shop. You may check some of the local car audio stores to see if they can assist. The changer will probably be need to be sent in for service so you may be better off getting a quality aftermarket system.

2004 Accord EX CD changer ERR and display blank

This is the Radio Anti Theft feature which is activated whenever there is a complete power loss to the radio (as in when it is stolen out of the car). A Honda Tech or ASE Certified Auto Tech would have plugged in a Memory Minder into the OBDII slot to not only prevent this, but also protect the Main ECM from resetting which could create drivability issue.
If the Honda is now registered in your name, take it to your local Honda Dealer. They should be able to pull the Radio Serial number without removing it like in the older Hondas, simply a matter of pushing the right buttons. With the Radio Serial Number, Your Proof of Ownership (Registration) and a Photo ID that matches it, either the Parts Department Or Service should be able to give you a Radio Code for it.
As for the CD ERR codes, the CD player probably is broken and will need to be sent out by Honda to a outside facility to be repaired. That will probably run between $250 to $350, plus the labor cost to remove it and reinstall it.
If you just bought this Honda, or any vehicle, I always strongly recommend having a Manufacture Dealership do at least a oil change on it and check what other services may be due, you might also discover it has Recalls that have yet to be completed that they can take care of for you. Catch the little problems before they ruin that Great Deal you just got buying it.
Strongly suggest you also join Hondas “OwnersLink”, you can find it on the Honda web site under Owners Resources links. In the future you can use this to recover your Radio code after you’ve been registered for awhile. Also keeps you notified of Recalls, Service Issues and even sends out Discount coupons (Latest is a $119 trunk cargo trays for $39, that is a Fantastic Deal).
