L own a 2005 BMW X 3 2.0d fitted with a PANORAMIC SUN ROOF. May anyone assist me with the step by step intructions on how to intialize the opening and closing of the sunroof. I had the same problem on my 04 X3. The second panel of the roof was stuck in tilt position. My warranty was up & they told me that the parts would cost $3300 and over $1000 for labor. I explained that it seems to be a design default if everyone is having the same issue. I called BMW Customer Relations & got them to replace the cassette for $495 plus tax.....
Hello X3 driver, you can initialize the sunroof by pushing straight up on the button, (the same position that is use for vent). You will need to hold the button for atleast 30 seconds. The cassette should go to vent position, then to close, then to fully open, then back to close. Once the fully closed position has been reached, release the button. that's all there is too it. Glad to see BMW is taking care of it's customers.
Had same problem.. all you have to do to close it is slide plastic piece back or forward with a screwdriver. it had a hole you can put it in and does not require much pressure so if you are doing the wrong thing. IT IS NOT THE METAL PIECE ON THE TILT BUT RATHER THE PLASTIC PEICE THAT HAS A TRIANGLE SHAPE. hope this helps and saves the money to close it. im still trying to find out how to fix it so if anyone has luck let me know
WAS JUST AT A BMW DEALER TODAY WITH THE SAME PROBLEM..THE BACK PORTION WILL NOT CLOSE DOWN,,THEY TOLD ME $3800.00.HEY CHARGED ME 200 JUST TO GET IT CLOSED AND DISABLED...
Exactly! I had the same problem. They told me that it would be $5100 to fix. They told me just to shut the window and disable it, it would be $476. I took it to a mechanic and they got the window to retract for $85. I am pretty mad at the dealership.
