You can also just get a new lower control arm with the ball joint already in it.. I don't like to have ball joints pressed in because if they don't do it right it could mess up the control arm.. but that's up to you

Hi Adeline,The lower ball joint is an integral part of the lower control arm. If the ball joint is defective, the entire lower control arm must be replaced. So here's a link showing you how to replace. http://www.autozone.com/repairinfo/repairguide/repairGuideContent.jsp?pageId=0996b43f821a44bb Here's another link to a new part. 1995 lincolin towncar spinnaker edition is the front lower ball joint pressed in or bolted in

use a screw type balljoint press to push the ball joint out, and is really the only good safe way to do this job. you probably can rent or free loaner tools at auto-zone. Clean up the inside of the bore with some emery cloth, and press the joint back in the way it came out, making sure to drive it in SQUARE until the flange fits flush aginst the bottom of the lower control arm. while at auto-zone. ask them if this tool will press the ball joint in too.

How to change lower ball joint on 95 mercury cougar...do you have to take lower countrol arm off to get ball joint out?

i would replace the whole control arm because the bushing are probably worn out too and it's easier than pressing out the ball joints. make sure you have a spring compressor tool when you do this or you could get seriously injured

1992 lower ball joint replacement

THE LOWER BALL JOINTS ARE A VERY TIGHT PRESS FIT INTO THE ARM, YOU NEED TO BUY A BALL JOINT PRESS KIT TO REMOVE THEM, BUT BASED ON MY PAST EXPERIENCE IT IS BEST TO JUST REMOVE THE LOWER CONTROL ARM AND HAVE A MACHINE SHOP PRESS THEM OUT AND THE NEW ONES IN, IT IS VERY EASY TO DISTORT AND RUIN THE CONTROL ARM DOING AN "ON THE CAR REPLACEMENT", THE BALL JOINT PRESS KIT RUNS ABOUT $50-$200 DEPENDING ON THE MAKER AND THE QUALITY, TRY WWW.HARBORFRIEGHT.COM TOOLS FOR AN ENTRY LEVEL KIT.

Dealer want to change my lower ball joints on my lincoln 2004 towncar for $1100 any cheaper way and is it dangares

I've done front end work. You may need a ball joint press, to remove the lower ball joint off the lower control arm and install or press the new one on. The upper ones you will have to chisel the the tops of the riviets off and drill though them unless they're on with nuts and bolts. It is easier to have the upper control arm off the car to do this also because the upper control bushings may need replacing also. You can get those off with a air chisel and on with a vise and a 5 pound sledge hammer and a sleeve on the bushing.(They make a bushing press which is better.) If you don't have air take the upper arms to a muffler shop. Before I had air, I took my arms to a local tire shop, he took the old ones off and put the new ones on for $20.

95 lincoln towncar dives to the left when hitting a bump scarey when travelling on highway or mountain turns

as soon as you can take your car to a mechanic and have front suspension checked it sounds like a dangerous situation maybe a bad tie rod end or ball joint...if either should fail you can lose control of the car
