Either the latch is bad or out of alignment. You will have to have it checked by a mechanic.

Weak battery or bad starter solenoid , jump starter solenoid to test with key in on position

Toyotas are notorious for the ignitors going bad. It is inside the distributor and is serviced only by replacing the entire distributor.

I have an 06 Impala LT. Just out of the blue my car wont start. Everything else comes on radio,lights, etc. When I turn the key it kind of makes a loud thumping sound. I had the conclusion of maybe in need of a new battery or something more serious....any suggestions?

First if brake lights arent working then the shiftlock wont work. Works off of same circuit. I would check fuses for brake lights and also horn. Not exactly sure on the 92's but good chance theres fuse's inside car and also under hood.

its the starter replace it and theres not enough power goin to the starter from the battery
