2010 Mazda 6, room fuse. A few weeks ago, my radio, interior dome lights and power locks all stopped working at the same time. Come to find out the fuse labeled "room" was blown. Replaced it and didn't have an issue until a couple days ago when it happened again. Replaced the fuse and was fine until today. Any thoughts on why the room fuse would keep blowing?

The fuse is doing its job. There is a surge of power going down the line from somewhere. Have you added anything to your car? Was you turning anything on or off when it happen.?

SOURCE: Keyless Entry and Remote

I have had this problem take you drivers door put your key and un-lock from the out side with key (NO) then open the door push un-lock from the inside button and then set from you remote and it should set if not push un-lock then lock and then do the un-lock with the key. Let me know if that works. what my car did was locked from the inside and I had the problem were it would not work till I un-locked from the out side plus I had to go to radio shack and change the battery from the control.
Hope good happens.

Try checking under hood in power distribution box for blown fuses also, or bad connection to it.

SOURCE: Blown Fuse / Electrical problem??

There is a short curcuit in the circuit that fuse protects. Is the radio original equipment or is it an aftermarket radio that has been replaced before? If it has been "worked on" by anyone lately or is not OEM, I would concentrate some there 1st to find the wire being "grounded or shorted". Also, check the door switches to see if they are loose or causing a wire to short against the door jamb. If you can't find the cause of the short, take it to an ASE certified electrical specialist, they will know how to diagnose and repair it. Electrical problems are extremely difficult to diagnose without seeing the car and therefore the price to fix the problem would be difficult to predict as well. But a specialist would likely find the problem in the least amount of time, and though their rates may be higher/hour, the outcome may still be quite a bit lower because they will find the problem faster due to their higher competence. Best wishes!

The easy part of this problem is knowing what it is, the difficult part is finding where it's shorting out. With the meters of wire and harness it would be discouraging thinking about it. Knowing VW took a lot of time engineering to avoid this simple problems, there are conditions that couldn't prevent this.

First off, have you recently installed an aftermarket part that hooks up to the wiring system e.g. radio, gauges, gps or other electronic accessory? Something added that needed a harness moved to make it fit or needed splicing a wire to power it up?

There are times when doing electrical work, the person doing it doesn't realize while stripping insulation from new wire that a strand of wire fell in a switch, fuse terminal causing a short in it's circuit.
You'd need to clean the fuse area with a clean paint brush to dust off any metal debris. Another way is by simply using a digital VOM with continuity tone to single out which component is causing it to blow the fuse.

Another suggestion is use a VAG 1552 scan tool or equivalent. This will also help pinpoint which component to look at and narrow the search area.

If you're a DIY kind of person and want to know how your vehicle works, wanting to get a little more involved. You'll need a Windows based laptop and purchase a ROSS-Tech software by clicking on the address.

Interior lights and radio stopped working and locks won't lock unless keys are in ignition

Hi Laura, Im glad to help!

Laura, anytime a fuse is blowing that means that the power side of the circuit is shorting out against something that's metal, it also can be a part itself that's shorting out. This is a very time consuming issue to find and can wind up costing you an arm and a leg. Call me Al 314-374-5218. Shorts are very common but must be traced down on the circuit fuse that is blowing. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Laura.

I accidentally hooked up the battery, reversing the polarity. I corrected the screw-up, but now the radio and interior lights will not come on. Fuses look good. any suggestions on fixing the radio &...

Ouch! Okay, do you have a volt meter? If so you need to check the voltage at your fuse box to make sure that you are getting power to fuse panel If you are getting power to the panel, then you have to diagnose the power issue from the fuse panel to the radio and dome lights. All the lights not working? The radio may have an in-line fuse as well. If you don't have a volt meter, go get one.

Electrical problem

I just had the same issues. No headlights, interior lights, power door locks, radio controls on steering wheel, or dash lights. Pulled every fuse in cab and under hood, not a one was bad. I disconnected the battery terminals for a few minutes. When I reconnected them every thing was working.
