I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5L S, THE CAR WONT START AND THE CODE THAT ITS SHOWING IS THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. IVE GOT THE SENSOR TO REPLACE IT, BUT I CANNOT FIND WHERE THE SENSOR IS LOCATED SO THAT I CAN INSTALL THE NEW ONE. PLEASE HELP!!
Cerebral_eni: The crank position sensor is located at the back of the engine block just below the cylinder head. It actually projects into the bell housing and reads the teeth on the flywheel where it references TDC for #1 cyl and RPM's of the crank. It's a "Hall effects generator". Unless you are into electronics and have a lab scope to look for a square wave pattern, I will continue with my other input.
Nissan has a recall campaign on the crank angle sensors.
The campaign # is 07V527000:ECM update for stalling;
NHTSA07V527000 NOV 07,
The symptom was brief malfunction of sensor causing the engine to quit running which could potentially put the vehicle at risk for a collision. The sensors would ultimately fail. There was also a voluntary recall on the reprogramming of the ECM's due to stalling problems. TSB# NTB07-081, Campaign ID#R0712
I hope this information is of some assistance to you. You may be able you get your car repaired under warranty! Good Luck!
BTW I have a similar problem and have had the sensor replaced and the ECM reporgrammed. The problem persists! Any other advice? Nissan needs to get this problem fixed. Reports are all over the web and no one offers a solution that works.
My car has the same issue with the crankshaft position sensor and the car randomly shutting off, especially at stoplights. I replaced the sensor (3 times) and have had the ECM reprogramming done.
The problem persists! Any other advice for a fix?
Nissan needs to address this problem because there are reports all over the web for this issue. All we can do is keep posting the problem over and over again in hopes Nissan will find a fix to our problems. This is very frustrating and makes me not want to own the 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5S.

My car some times will start and then some time it won't on the first try. Then some time it dies going down the road, or it cuts out and jerks.
the code is showing a problem in the circuit of the sensor, this does not mean the sensor is defective.
engine surges at times and stalls
