I have a jeepliberty2004has engine shot off - 2002 Jeep Liberty

Either your throttle position sensor or idle air control valve is shot try stepping on the gas while starting if the engine races then you can bring the rpms down then it stalls the throttle position sensor is N / G because the contact in the idle spot is worn out from regular use and the sensor needs to be replaced ///if you can't do this the idle air control valve is shot

fuses first, check them.
then CEL lamp must glow key on. must.
shot of the engine?
got a volt meter?
did you use the check engine diagnostic, using a jumper wire at DLC
for The CEL lamp flashing drama?
the PCM will flash for total lost of spark and why,.
all spark plugs dead or just 1, (really it cant run on 5cyl, it needs 6)

If the engine will spin over but not start more than likely the timing belt has broken or stripped. That would be why they told you that the engine was shot. Those are interference engines, meaning when they get out of valve timing, like a broken timing belt, the valves will hit the pistons and damage the engine.
So first thing I would advise is to determine if there is a problem with the timing belt. If so more than likley the motor is damaged.

The tranny is shot, and that is why the engine won't crank??? Did the Shop explain the situation in any detail? Can you put the car in Park or Neutral? Did the shop mention anything about a bad nuetral safty switch??

Did you check for a blowin fuse,Or the fan relay could be shot, Or on that old of a vehicle the cooling fans could be shot. The way to test fan is unplug them at the plastic module End use a jumper wire going to your battery , If they don,t come on then you no the fan is shot.

The only explanation for the oil loss,if the engine does not have a leak,is that the engine used oil,it burned it along with the fuel,go to a heavy oil,and a quart of lucas oil additive,this will slow the consumption down.

ok what warning light come on???? oil or charging light,,,if its the oil light i gess there is no oil left in the engine or there is no oil presher,,,in witch case the engine is shot away,, if its just a charging light my gess is the hight presher water jet shot water inside the altornator it may dry out but if its got oil inside of it then you need to get a new one fitted or strip your down and clean it all out, using hight presher water hoses is a big mistake
