Balancer pulley turns 1/8 turn before crank

There is a knocking noise coming from the balancer. You can turn the crank pulley an 1/8 turn before it locks in place and turns the balancer.

Replace it with a new one. Your harmonic balancer is made with a rubber in between is probably rotten. Or you broke the key in the cranck shaft known as half moons. You will need a damper puller and possibly will have to work from under the fender, if the engine is sideways.
Good Luck

Remove yonder pulley and you will find the bolt holes are elongated. get another from a scrapyard (take the bolts too.) replace and you should be fine.

I have wh Holden statesman that recently just started playing up when I'm at a standstill at the lights I feel the car like it's going to die out then when I begin to drive it starts making clanking n

if its loud knocking noise at idle from front area of motor possibly crank pulley has separated from rubber.
when motor is not running can you grab the serpentine belt and move it along rotate it from left to right side of vehicle until it clunks to a stop which is the saftey lugs on the inside of the crank pulley, turning the pulleys?
if so the crank shaft balancer needs replacing
if you cant turn belt over by hand its ok and could be an internal motor issue, big end or camshaft bearing failure were the other common faults

99 trooper 3.5 v6 , believe balancer pulley sheared the key.pulley is wobbling and motor knocking like rod knock.is this a zero tolerance engine and are they known for this problem.sounds like motor is out...

IT is a zero tolerance engine which means that if you break a timing belt there will be valve damage. Check the harmonic balancer and if there is a rubber insert between the pulley and the crank shaft hub then replace the harmonic balancer as this rubber has failed and the pulley will fall off. If the key has sheared as you suspect there would be no engine noise as the engine would not be running. Fix the balancer first then check for the noise as it may be just the balancer

Screechind and knocking sound when it is started

check the harmonic balancer for failure first The sound is probably the pulley slipping on the bonded rubber to the crank hub.

Hi I have a 2000 isuzu kb 2.8 td. The pulley on my crank seems to be in 3 parts and sometimes when i turn sharp or when the engine is cold it will make a screeching noise. I made marks on all three and i...

I would advise replacing the harmonic balancer asap. If the marks are moving then the bonded rubber which is the movement for the harmonics is coming apart and if not replaced will fail with possible radiator. timing cover and other related damage. I have seen one come apart on a Chrysler valiant and it hit the ground and went through a windscreen. The screech is the outer pulley slipping on the crank hub.

Engine knocking on and off

inspect the harmonic balancer.
When the crank turns there is a rubber buffer between the pully and crank portions of the balancer that could have let go causing an engine knock like noise.

Timing

from memory i know mitsubishi use crank angle sensors on the balancer so im thinking either the rubber in the balancer has shifted slightly or worst case you've worn the crank or timing belt crank pulley keyway. also guessing it turbo your car.
