My heater quit working at one time on my 2000 bville and it turned out to be a sticky water valve under the dash. I pulled off the panels under the dash and tapped the vavle with a hammer and haven't had problems since..... Good luck!

where is the valve located under the dash

Probably too late now, I haven't checked this in a while. It is under the console behind the knobs for the temp/a/c, etc. The valves are inside the housing but you can see a white round circle with what looks like a flat head screwdriver slot in it. That is the valve. You can watch it while you turn the temp knob back and forth to see if it moves at all... If it moves only slightly, then tap it to loosen it up. Hope this helps.

The heater core can be plugged. The control valve that regulates the amount of water that enters the core can be plugged or inoperative.

Heater core leaking

Must replace the heater core. Its usually a very hard job that requires disassembly of the dash. If you insist on doing the job yourself, I suggest getting a repair manual from your local auto parts store so you can use it as a reference as you work. Here is a link to a video on a 98, yours will be very similar: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=1991+Pontiac+Bonneville+heater+core+replacement&sm=12

2000 pontiac bonneville overheating

Look in the radiator to determine if the brown stuff is rust or oil. If it's oil then the head gaskets are blown and the heads will have to go to a machine shop to be ground flat. Do them both even if one side is ok, or the engine will never idle right. If it's just rust, install a back flush kit and blow out the rust. Turn the heater on when you back flush to get the rust out of the heater core. Replace the thermostat and anti freeze. Pressurize the radiator and make sure it holds. If the pressure drops off then look to find where the leak is (head gaskets)

Heater blows out cool air only

Could be a stuck thermostat... or low coolant level. feel hoses going to heater core, if only one is hot while car is warmed up. i would say the heater core is plugged because this is where you get the heat for inside of car ! hot coolant goes through heater core and a fan blows it out to heat inside of car. if both are hot then the heater core is ok.

Need to locate heater core need diagram

There are 2 rubber hoses that get hot when the engine is running. They come from the engine and connect to the heater core at the firewall The hose is about 3/4 inch in diameter and is hot to the touch after the engine is up to operating temperature.

I had this problem with my 2000 Bville. It turned out to be a sticky valve under dash. I pulled off the under panels and tapped around the valve with a hammer. It has worked fine now for about a year.
