I recently bought a used VW beetle from a friend of a friend who had bought the car for his daughter but she refused to learn stick. he told me that i needed a new mass air flow sensor but everything else was okay.
i got the car home and drove it for a week with no real problems or issues, i had to let the car warm up before driving it but it would drive with no real problems once warmed up (about 5-10 minutes before moving....)
I bought a mass air flow sensor and had my neighbor who works on Audi's work on it for me. He installed it..... and everything got worse. it started bogging worse it wouldn't start... etc... we finally realized some vacuum hoses needed to be replaced and replaced those.
then it got worse *again* and i had to replace my ignition coil. that was yesterday.
now i'm basically back to where i started where i have to let it warm up for a good 5 minutes before moving... but randomly WHILE I AM DRIVING. i will push down on the clutch to change gears, or make a turn, or stop at a stop light... and it will die. the battery light will come on, and i will need to turn the key and start it again while driving to keep the car moving..
HELP! any ideas would be appreciated.

I WOULD TRY DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY FOR 5 MINUTES TO SEE IF THE COMPUTER WILL REVERT TO IT'S DEFAULT SETTINGS. IF YOU HAVE A CODE FOR THE RADIO, THEN RETRIEVE IT BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. HOPE THIS HELPS. THANK YOU FOR USING FIX-YA. BEST OF LUCK. AND THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR AN HONEST RATING.
SOURCE: 2000 VW Beetle 2.0L the air conditioner was
at idle most a/c get warmer as they are not under load to circulate the freon at a rapid pace
changing the dryer is wasting your money won't change anything sounds to me as if there might be a vapour lock in the system. run the car for a week with a/c on max to fully circulate freon to see if the problem goes away if not go back to the shot tell them to check system with gauges on the high and low side to make sure that it infact is properly charged with the right amount and temp.
42-54 degrees is good

Sorry to say but you and I are in the same boat. The 2004 Beetle Convertible is the biggest piece of **** on the road! My wife and I have had one, pre-certified mind you, since 2005. We have had THOUSANDS of dollars of work done to this car, mainly covered by warranty. We attempted to have this problem fixed by out local VW Dealer. It is one of three things... 1) It's a vacuum problem. All of the vacuum hoses need to be replaced. I wouldn't do this since our dealer did this for us (400 bucks) and nothing changed, same problem occurred after we had all the work done. 2) It is the ignition coil (800 price installed with new wires and plugs from the dealer) 3) It's the fuel pump... This came from the service advisor at the dealership. I sincerely hope you got the extended warranty!!! Good luck...
