SOURCE: 2002 Chevy Silverado clunking noice when shift from 2wd to 4hi

It is somewhat Normal Depending on how Loud the Clunking is. This is a Common Complaint on the Chevy 4x4's. I have verified this through the Dealerships here in Oklahoma and they all say the Same thing But, I am with you, They should go into 4x4 without that Clunk for as much as we pay for them.

Sounds normal for 4HI operation on dry pavement. The driveline is binding 'cause every wheel needs to turn @ different speeds on a turn and can't. Shift to 2wd or Auto

Service 4wheel drive light on (dashboard)can I change out the fluid? after driving just a couploe of miles the service light comes on.Took a sample of transfer case fluid and can't quite tell...

The service 4 wheel drive light is indicating a part failure in the 4 wheel drive system.
Take your vehicle to your local Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts and ask them to scan your Tahoe for trouble codes. The code will help to determine what the component failure is and you can start diagnosing at that point.
Write the code down and reply back, we can go from there.
Good luck.

Stuck in 4wheel drive??? help :)

when driving in 4wd engagement there is a problem in that the torque in the axles and drive lines is not dissipated on hard surfaces as the wheels cannot slip ( great for snow ice mud gravel and the like but a no-no on hard non slip surfaces
yes reversing it will relieve it but if on hard surface ,winds it up again in reverse
better to simply drive two wheels onto the grass verge of the hard surface and then kick it into 2wd
if the diffs are limited slip diffs then the antislip action in the diffs will be pressed very hard together and will produce problems on turning corners
you may have success if you get all 4 wheels of the ground on a hoist and let the wheels spin and then try to engage 2wd

Ford explorer stuck in low 4wheel drive

put it back into 2 wheel drive, then reverse 10 or 15 feet, this should unlock the hubs.
