We need replace the serpentine belt on a 1998 Buick Lasabre

Easy job on those vehicles. Usually need a wrench that fits over the belt tensioner, and you raise or lower it, taking tension off the belt. then just slip it off the nearest pulley-often the alternator pulley. Now you can let go of the tensioner and remove belt. Notice how it is fit. There should be a diagram on a sticker of how the belt fits on.

How to install a serpentine belt on 2001 buick lesabre?

The Serpentine belt or as the books call it the drive belt is located at the front of the engine. I promise you, getting it off is easier than getting it back on! That was your fair warning. You will need a 1/2" drive wratchet or breaker bar to move the tensioner pulley. Rotate the tensioner counter clockwise to release the belt tension. The tensioner will swing down once the tension is released. Remove the belt from the auxlliary components and carefully release the tensioner. NOTE: The tensioner should be fairly stiff and if not released carefully can cause you or your vehicle to feel pain! The pulley on the tensioner should be checked to insure it is rotating smoothly and freely. Some folks replace them everytime they replace the belt, others do it by miles. Your 2001 is 14 years old, it probably has had most of the other parts replaced already and you should consider replacing the tensioner while you are here. If your model has an engine mount at the front, it may be necessary to remove it. FIRST support the engine securely then remove the engine mount. Do not place you jack under the oil pan withoout at least a board between the jack and pan to spread out the weight or you may punch a hole in the pan. Then run the new belt over the pulleys in the same way that the old belt was run. Taking a couple of pictures or making a drawing is a good idea. Most vehicles came from the factory with a drawing on a label under the hood, but if yours is missing you will need to know where it goes in order to keep things turning in the correct direction. You may need to work from both above the fender and below the car to get the belt on correctly. A helper can make the job a lot easier and faster. Good luck and watch your knuckles!

What would cause my serpentine belt to not fit on my buick lesabre custom 2001

Those belts have a tensioner on them. IF the belt is too big then the tensioner might not be retracted. It might be missing. There are idler pulleys too. If you have high miles on the this car, the pulley or the tensioner might be worn. The tensioner also has to be pulled back to have the belt put on.

HOW DO I TIGHTEN THE LOOSE BELT AFTER INSTALLATION ON 97 BUICK LE SABRE? REALLY NEED A DIAGRAM TO MAKE SURE I INSTALLED THE SERPENTINE BELT CORRECTLY.

There may be a diagram imprinted on fan shroud. There is a belt tensioner that tightens the belt. Also when installing belt be sure you have grooved part of belt riding on grooved pulleys. And flat side of belt riding on flat sided pulleys.

Replacing serpentine belt

Click on the following direct Link. It has the Serpentine Belt Diagram that you will need depending on your engine size (2.0L or 3.0L) and your options (AC/No AC ect.).
http://www.2carpros.com/car_repair_information/year/2001/make/mazda/model/tribute/2001_mazda_tribute_drive_belt_routing_diagram.htm

Standard Rules to Removal the Serpentine Belt with a Tensioner:
1. Find the Tensioner(s). (See Diagrams on Link)
2. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool, Or Wrench OR Ratchet, Rotate/Move the Tensioner USING THE AVAILABLE NUT (on the Pulley or Arm Base) OR the OPENING (3/8ths or 1/2 inch square opening) rotating the Tensioner Pulley/Arm - moving it away from contact with the belt and towards the area where the belt is not in contact with the Tensioner Pulley. The Tensioner is spring loaded, and is hard to rotate/move.
3. Remove the loosened belt off one of the other more easily accessed Pulleys.
4. DO NOT quickly release the Tensioner, but gently allow the Tensioner to rest in its closed position.

Standard Rules for Installing the Serpentine Belt with Tensioners:
a. Pick a Pulley that is most easily accessed. This will usually be on top. This will be the last Pulley that the belt will go on.
b. Using the Diagram: Install the new Serpentine Belt on the remainder of the Pulleys....over, under, left right.
c. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool or Wrench or Ratchet Tool: Rotate/Move the Tensioner Pulley/Arm "away" from Belt contact area on the Tensioner. This spring is pretty hard and with a new belt, it will be even harder to install. Rotate/Move this to as-close to the maximum allowed inorder to have enough slack in the belt to get it up and over the last pulley.
d. Using your other hand - Pull the Belt up and over the Last remaining Pulley.
e. Before releasing the pressure on the Tensioner, visually inspect the remainder Pulleys and the Belts' Positioning on them

Diagram to change fan belt on 1993 buick lesabre

the "serp" belt is self-adjusted by a spring loaded tensioner pulley. the proper size wrench or a 3/8" square drive inserted in the tensioner and rotated will release the tension to allow the belt to come off. reverse order to install. DRAW A PICTURE OF THE ROUTING OF THE BELT AROUND THE PULLEYS BEFORE REMOVING CURRENT BELT!!
