My fuel cap light in on

Two things, the light doesn't turn off because you changed the fuel cap. In fact the computer doesn't know you did anything. It will test what is called the evaporative emission system on its own, when it falls within parameters. Usually takes a couple of weeks. If it passes, the computer will turn the light off. If the light stays on, you have and evaporative leak and need to have it checked out.
