Engine not starting; check engine light is lightning

The lightning bolt warning light alerts you to a fault in the electronic throttle control system in your vehicle. This may be a faulty throttle body, the throttle body sensor or possibly the throttle body control motor which is what controls the opening and closing of the throttle body as the motor requires more fuel.

If your engine turns over at normal speed when you turn your key, check to make certain you have spark at your spark plugs. If you do have spark, then it is very likely your fuel pump relay or fuel pump have gone out.

As the engine light is on there could be a fault code stored in the memory if the memory survived the lightning bolt.

Sensitive Cmos computer chips are easily damaged by any stray static discharge and so it is asking a lot for them to withstand lightning or even the magnetic pulse from a nearby lightning bolt.

The engine management computer has probably sustained terminal damage but that should not be assumed without first checking spark/injection impulses, supply and ground, wiring and connections...

It is of course possible the only damage is to the immobiliser...

You need to take it to a shop and have it scanned so you know the t-case fault codes (transfer case)

I do not know what the flashing lightning bolt on the left hand corner means, except that reminds me of electrical, but couldn't find a reference to it in my research.

If you have a check engine light, then it probably left a code recorded behind. I would start there.

Ask to have the computer scanned for codes, and this may point in the right direction.

The lightning bolt light indicates you have an issue with your electronic throttle control system.

This should be repaired ASAP so you don't end up with a run away engine, or one that does on you when you need to get going quick.
