2004 Kia Rio, the temp gauge goes up to half within a minute and the vehicle will heat up within 30 minutes, faster if the air is on. The thermostat was replaced, but it still heats up. Fan is working, has antifreeze, checked the flow test when the accelerator is pressed and it was flowing in the reservoir. What can is be? What can we do next?

SOURCE: car dies when first driving then hard to start

The following are the general instructions on the start of diagnosing any electronically controlled engine or transmission problem.

The engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is only for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter the transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems. Also engine mechanical problems ca cause many drive-ability related problem such as rough idle and other symptoms

THe heat gauge will get to appropriate temp and when heat I see turned on you will get heat for about 30 seconds at which point the temp gauge goes down and you only get slightly warm air.

First check the coolant level. May be low. If not check your thermostat. Could be stuck open in which case will let the vehicle run cooler.

I have a 2004 Elantra, the temp gauge goes up to 3/4 within 5 minutes of driving...and remains there...never overheats...just stays at that high hot temp ...there is enough coolant and the fans are...

The sensor for the gauge could be faulty.
The thermostat could also be faulty, there is a small window between the thermostat opening at 195 and the coolant boiling at 220.

Check coolant level, and possibly replace thermostat. When a thermostat gets stuck in the closed position, coolant does not circulate thru motor. Gauge stays midrange when driving, because motor is being cooled by air and or the fan. If car seems to operate completely normal, then the gauge is faulty.

Air condtioner started to put out warm air

Chiltons are available for most vehicles. If the guage is reading hot and the vehicle is not check the sensor connections. If good it could indicate an air lock or bubble within the system or a bad thermostat which is not opening correctly

Temp gauge goes up when stopped and goes back down when cruising.

Your thermostat is either defective or your cooling fan is not engaging on the right tempertures (sensor)
