SOURCE: My 1996 nissan 200sx won't start

If the starter fluid worked for a little and the engine died again, it may be some of your filters. Check the air and fuel filters and replace them if they are dirty or haven't been replaced in a long while. This is the most common reason a car won't start.

Another idea is the engine may have been flooded. If you have a fuel injected engine, don't pump the fuel when trying to start it. The fuel pump primes the engine all on it's own. If the engine is already flooded, push the fuel pedal all the way to the floor and hold it there while you try to start the engine. This bypasses the priming and opens the air to blast any unburned fuel out of the cylinders.

Check to make sure you are getting spark with an inline spark tester (at auto parts stores) and if not try replacing (in order) the spark plugs, wires and (depending on your engine) the magneto's or distributor cap. Ask the auto parts store if they can look up if you have a distributor-less ignition or if you have a distributor.

So, first the filters (air and any fuel [there may be more than 1]) then check for spark and replace the spark plugs, wires, and magneto/distributor cap.

I hope this helps and good luck! Don't forget to rate! Thank you!

SOURCE: My 1997 Nissan Maxima will not start. It's not

If the spark plugs aren't firing then you just have to follow it backwards. the spark plugs should be connected to a coil or distributor. The problem could be there.

SOURCE: My 2005 nissan Pathfinder some times just won't

without knowing a lot more about why Nissan advised you need a fuse box I can only assume there is some insider information at Nissan

furthermore, is the concern intermittent?
is there voltage at the pump during the concern?
personally, unless it was under warranty in where I would not charge you for the new "fuse box", which is also going to include a new harness, I would have to prove this is going to fix the problem

again, unless Nissan has some insider information I do not, the repair diagnoses seems simple...
during the concern
1.) is there power to the pump
2.) is the computer commanding the pump on
3.) what is the "volt drop" of the fuel pump circuit

Where is the main fuel relay located

Stand by the gas tank while someone turns the key to ON. Listen for the fuel pump to come on for a second or two as it should. It will only come on for about two seconds to pressurize the fuel system, then shut off and only come on again when the engine is cranked. If you hear it, then the pump is working. Hence, you would smell gas after cranking the car a bit. If no sound from the pump, look for the relay in the power distribution box under the hood. The box's cover should have a diagram for fuel pump location. Or your owner's manual might show it.

Car is missing in both high and low rpm's changed fuel filter and stopped missing for a while then started up agian. have already swapped spark plugs, distributor & rotor and spark plug wire as well....

It could be that you have picked up a batch of dirty fuel that has clogged the gauze input filter that is part of the fuel pump inside the fuel tank.
You will need to remove the pump assembly from the tank. Access to it is usually through a removable plate in the floor under the back seat. Once you have the pump assembly out allow the gauze filter to dry. You can assess the amount of clogging by shining a torch through the gauze and see how much light comes through. Clean it by brushing with an old tooth brush and blowing clean with compressed air. If there is a lot of dirt/rust in the tank, try draining it. You may have to repeat the cleaning process again in few months if the symptoms appear again.

1987 Nissan 200SX cranks but hard to start

Thats a classic sign of having your engine run too rich. That puffy layer of ash is carbon which means your engine is not burning gas properly or completely which means is misfiring thats why the car is shaking. Try having your oxygen sensors checked and make sure you are using good fuel.

1998 nissan 200sx 1.6l car wont start has fuel and fire

what you need to check is are you getting any spark at the spark plugs, to do this, unplug one of your spark plug wires at the spark plug, find a screwdriver that will fit inside the spark plug wire housing, make sure your screwdriver has a insulated or non conductive handle, hold the steel shank of the screwdriver about 1/8"-1/4" from your exhaust manifold and have someone crank the engine, just for a second or two, look to see if there is spark jumping from the screwdriver shank to the manifold, if there is, then you eclectically is probably OK.
second you need to check your fuel, you really should have a fuel pressure gage but for now lets just do a preliminary check.
find your fuel line going to the intake manifold (steel tubing 5/16"-3/8" diameter) you need to disconnect the line somewhere between the fuel pump and the intake manifold. you'll need a can.
hold the can under the fuel line so fuel doesn't go everywhere, then have someone crank the engine, if it is an electric fuel pump you wont need any help, all you'll need to do is turn the key on and it should start pumping fuel, the fuel discharge should be very noticeable, it will really start coming out fast and furious.
If you don't have fuel coming from the line or very little, your fuel pump or fuel filter is probably bad.
alot of vehicles will stop running on just a plugged up fuel filter, but normally it will give you some warning, like your engine will start to miss or loss of power on hill or accelerations. If you haven't experienced any problems until now, i doubt its the filter.
see if you can check those two items out and let me know what you find
buy the way, alot of the newer vehicles on the road today use special connection clips to connect fuel lines, you may need a tool to get the line disconnected, there little plastic tools in different sizes depending on the size of your fuel line. if you need one and your doing this yourself, borrow one or at the automotive house ask for a fuel line quick disconnect tool. i don't think there alot of money. make sure your car isn't out of gas.
good luck and let me know how you make out.
would appreciate your feedback, please
