I have an 06 Dodge 5.9L that has a light white smoke and rough idle when first ... 2006Ram 2500 QCSB 4x4, 3" Carli coils w/ 1" Daystar spacer, ... Still ran good tho, dispite the exact conditions you describe on Cold Start up.
As diesels tend to have the gas pedal actually be the gas pedal and not the throttle, methinks the sensor for your pedal is misaligned, broken, or corroded. I'd start there.
The TPS sensor (or Throttle Position Sensor) is bad locate it and replace, it is located where the rubber air intake hose meets the intake manual, look for a wireand plug, also to make sure it is this sensor bring the truck to an Auto Zone and have them read any stored trouble codes for free this should confirm the faulty TPS.
it sounds as if maybe the transfer pump is going bad. chrysler has come out with a retro kit that moves the pump from the side of the engine and puts it in the tank
did you try the mass air flow sensor? This same thing happend to my 2000 explorer this summer and that is exactly what ir was. try to unplug it and see if it will run on it's own then you can get it to a garage :)
this is referred to as a drive by wire system. meaning you have no accel cable. it uses a sensor on the gas pedal and on the pump. probably the pedal sensor going bad need to check the code and go from there
no throttle position sensor
Does this engine have a throttle position sensor?
