BMW Batteries are specific to the car. No manufacturer makes a battery that is an exact fit. If I use an aftermarket battery I am forced, or the battery shop is forced, to use some kind of a shim to make it fit.
I would prefer to replace the battery myself. BMW wants between $300 and $350 if they replace it.BMW Batteries are specific to the car. No manufacturer makes a battery that is an exact fit. Passenger side rear quarter panel in the trunk (yeah, in the trunk, believe it or not). Look under the pass side tail light in the trunk you'll see the two screws holding down the cover.
Quit looking under the front hood...it isn't there. The BMW and Porsche 928 folks love to put the battery in the back. BMW---in the trunk under the right (passnger side) access panel. 928----rear hatback a little left of center under the spare tire. Genius those Aryans.
if after unlocking and pushing the button to open not working if it has the back seats that fold down to allow long things to be put in trunk you can look for the manual trunk release. it should be illuminated in the dark
I do not know if they will interchange; however, the BMW trunk lid part number changed in March 2005 according to www.realoem.com. You try a part for part comparison. There are more parts to the 750LI trunk.

The battery is likely in the trunk under a panel. Your owner's manual should tell you where the battery is located most likely. There are multiple battery companies that specialize in batteries only. Drive in and out in about 10 minutes. They test your system and tell you of problems. If you just change a battery, you don't know what caused the drain in the first place? Is alternator going bad? Voltage regulator problem? Dirty or corroded wires, or just an old battery. Most any place that works on cars can replace your battery. Dealership is likely to be most expensive. Walmart or other automotive departments can also do the work. Goodyear, Midas, the list is long.
Ok, I've rambled out enough. If he knows what the problem is with the battery, he can change it if he wants to. Problem is there are dangers with batteries. You have a heavy object full of unfriendly liquids and the possibility to create sparks around gases that can explode.
For the cost, I just take it to a battery place. They sell comparable batteries to suit your climate and they cost less in my neck of the woods. Hope that helps.
