1995 Buick LeSabre - Stalls then restarts while driving

My wife's 1995 Buick LeSabre, 3.8L, stalls while driving on highway and then restarts. This happens in an instant. At night we notice the engine lights blink. Occassionally when slowing down in the city, car might stall and will always restart manually. None of the engine lights stay on and when hooked to the on-board computer everything checks OK.

    ccn7,

Haven't had the car very long and am not sure, but problem seems to be electrical in nature. Last time the dealer found some corrosion between two "plates" on a battery cable and the problem seemed to be fixed for about 3 weeks, now it resurfaced again.

    ccn7,

Is it possible the PCM is bad and not registering? One mechanic at the dealership mentioned that this morning. He also seemd to imply that it is kind of a "poke and hope" thing. Not sure I like that kind of "lack of confidence" for a $400 fix?? I have already changed the crank sensor and that was not it.

    What about the ignition module?

engine light blinks off and on when driving long distances on the highway. Car will **** or hesitate but doesn't stall. After a few miles it will stop and then act like nothing had happened. Doesn't happen at all during city driving.

Has the fuel filter been chg. lately. If it has, maybe a fuel pressure test is in order. Fuel pump might be geeting weak and does not show up until it gets warmed up. Fuel pumps are a common problem on this type of cars.

Its posible you got what they call a slow computer, what i mean by that is you car is right at the time when G.M. updated the computers, now what is ment by that is up to 95 you could unhook a battery cable and erase all codes, with the updated computers you can't, they have to be cleared with a scanner. I'am like you for the machanic to say something like that dosent give you much confidence in him or his work. What bothers me about the computer is, if it was at fault it would still thro a code, even if the light only came on for an instint. Ignition switch is a posibilty and there relativly cheap. All i can tell you is to chk. all ground wires, not just on the battery, but body to engine, grounds are a big deal on computer cars. Thats the best i can do for you without beaning ther good luck. If you need more help don't hesatate to ask, thats what i am hear for.

The fastest way to check for the problem is to have a scanner hooked up to the obdii system and see which sensors change when you shift into drive.

Using excessive fuel cleaner can damage injectors and the fuel pump - sounds like your problem is the fuel pump bearings, and you will probably have to have it replaced.

My 1995 buick lesabre stalls while driving and will restart

first thing you should try is the fuel filter. If that doesn't get it, it could be your idle air control valve, idle contol system, or vacuum leaks at the intake manifold, or vacuum hoses. It could also be spark plug wires, or plugs. Good luck!
