Fluid color don't matter. Your cable or shifting linkage may have slipped or is slipping. #1 Hold brake pedal down and move shift lever very slow around the reverse indicator. When reverse activates note were indicator is located. #2 Test the other gear indicators at the proper speeds(MPH). No problems with #2-linkage problem. Problem with both-go get a six pack. Good Luck.

?2005 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor starts

I would but imagine that since it goes into reverse, the shift lever is connected to the transmission. Makes sense. But won't go into forward gears with the selector/shift lever. Your either very low on trans fluid or you've burned the clutch packs out from being low on trans fluid. Only makes sense.

Why would my 1992 crown vic operate in reverse and only if floored will it engage in drive

check your fluid lever first, if it is not low then you either have an issue with either the mlps (manual lever position switch) which is located on the side of the transmission, or the trans itself is probably in need of an overhaul. If it seems like it just happened all of a sudden, check fluid first-on level ground, with the engine warm and the trans having just been driven or loaded. If you haven't done it yet, get the trans serviced and use Mercon V fluid, it should be done every 60,000 miles.

How can a kickdown cable be hooked up wrong if its connected to the tranny and the throttle body on a 1992 crown victoria

More likely it is not adjusted properly Kickdown cables are used to control fluid flow in the transmission so they shift correctly If adjusted to tight or to loose it will cause the transmission to not change gears properly or not at all

Goes in reverse when cold. but not when warm.

probably bad reverse clutch's in transmission. When vicosity of Trans fluid thins out by heat the less friction you will have in clutch assembly in transmission thus loss of gears..... Might also want to simply check fluid level in transmission when warm and running to make sure there is adequate amount in it.

1995 crown vic gear problems/gear shift wont lock

most likely the shift tube bushings are bad- you may have also lost a few screws in the shift tube or they could just be loose. you have to pull the steernig column down to inspect/repair it.

Transmission won'y shift into higher gears

It could be a bad vacuum hose or a bad solenoid. Check fluid condition and level first. A Chilton or Haynes repair guide will tell you what you need to know about placement of hoses and solenoid.
