2005 Odyssey makes whirring sounds sometimes.

My 2005 Honda Odyssey started making this whirring or whinning sound every so often. Sounds like the transmission straining. Not sure if it is the transmission or not. Want to know if anyone else had this problem. Still under warranty, but sound probably won't happen when I take the car in.

answer to clarification request is posted as a new problem. Sorry wasn't sure how to respond.

Does the sound occur more when the car is cold or when you first drive it?
Does the sound occur more often when driving slowly?
Does it mostly make the sound when you are turning and braking at slow speeds?
    How about in reverse?

Would you say the sound is high pitched or low pitched?

SOURCE: Car is making a "whirring,

Does it seem worse when turning? If so, check your axle cv joints, they make a clicking noise (especially when turning) when they are shot. Next check wheel bearings. Let me know what u find. good luck

If you can't figure it out from the owners manual just call the dealership. Unfortunately, the aftermarket maintenance manuals are not for sale yet.

SOURCE: Transmission fluid/filter change in 2000 Honda Odyssey

I would not recommend using Dexron III. Honda Odysseys are prone to transmission problems. A drain and fill with Genuine Honda Fluid is Recommended. The drain plug can be removed with a 3/8 ratchet at the bottom of the trans. The fill hole is at the top of the trans. You remove it with a socket on a long extension. The capacity is close to 3 quarts

Why won't my washer fluid motor work on my 2008 Honda Odyssey?

Check for the whirring sound of the water pump when you pull the wash switch. It is located at the bottom of the fluid container. If no sound, the pump maybe dead. Check voltage supply at the connector to the motor too.

Make sure your transmission is all the way in park. Sometimes they don't go into park completely.

2000 Honda Odyssey making squealing noise when I turn

Sounds like the brake pad wear indicator tab on the inner brake pad as the pads sometimes wear out unevenly due to stiky brake calliper slides. You would have to remove the wheel to inspect it.

I know this original question was written quite a few months back but I was wondering if you ever found out what the high pitch sound was. I just purchased a used 2005 Honda Odyssey and it is doing the exact same thing. Any advice?

2005 honda odyssey radio controls on the steering wheel, the volume up button changes the station while the volume down button turns up the volume

there is a service bulletin about this. the steering wheel has to be removed along with the switch gear. then the steering shaft ring that makes contact for these controls while the wheel is being turned need to be gently dimpled to make better contact. if the dimples are too extremem the whole steering column will need replaced.
