I would check the oil pressure sensor and the oil pump itself. You can take the sensor out and use a mechanical gauge to check the oil pressure. If the oil pressure is within specs, you need a new sensor, if not, you need a new pump.

SOURCE: 2006 vw jetta tdi service engine light reset

With the key in the ignition (but not turned), press and hold the Odometer Reset Button on the right hand side of the panel. While still holding that button, turn the key (although not far enough to start the engine) and then press and hold the Minute button on the left side of the instrument pane(if pressing doesnt work try turning the knob clockwise until service light has gone off and skip the pressing)l. Release both buttons at the same time.

The problem more than likely is the water pump. Like many VW's the water pump is plastic and it starts to fall apart after 50,000 miles. Coincidentally when you warranty ends.

How can I diagnose a fuel delivery problem on a 2003 VW Jetta GLI 2.8L

you can unhook the fuel line where it connects to the fuel rail and turn the key on and see if you get fuel but it's risky you don't want it to spill over the engine. you may just need a new filter or maybe an intermittent short at the fuel pump. could even just be the power supply plug for the fuel pump

The oil light came on and it says no oil pressure stop the engine. What would cause this?

This problem can be caused by; low engine oil, bad oil pump, or bad or disconnected oil pressure switch. Please identify which engine your car has and which model Jetta it is (2.0T, 2.5,GLI, TDI or Value Edition) in order to establish the location of the components.

Hey Guys.. This problem is the Coil Packs. There is a recall out on all 1.8t Motors. If you haven't had an issue, its no rush but should be completed. If you have the sputtering, low power, struggle from the engine, bring it in to an Audi/VW dealer. They'll fix it free of charge. Done and Done.
