SOURCE: keyless key pad entry code
Ford cars and such will put a sticker on the hinge or back gate with the numbers on it.
It will just be a white sticker with black numbers. A five digit code.

Yes you can program your own code by inputting the original code then hit the no. 2 button then input your own 5 digit code.
The dealer will have to recover the code for you. Look at spending about 100 bucks unless you are getting other work done they will usually do it for free if you have other biz with them.
SOURCE: I bought a used 2008 ford escape. No owners
did you mean the key pad on the door? if it is then you need to track down the original owner to give you the factory code then you can program up to 3 codes.
give the local dealer a call to see if they can run the VIN number for a factory code, they may charge you a fee.
if you bought it from a dealer then they must take care of that for you at no charge.
otherwise you will need to replace the key pad.
