I am no Saab expert ... but did find this tread on a Saab forum ..

As to buying used: Consider this from Saab workshop info man:
"Before removing a control module, Tech 2 must be used to separate the control module from the car."
If this was not performed on the replacement/donor unit then there's a question of usability. Pose this Q to your shop. I'd like to hear the answer as it may apply to my steering column lock problem.

The doors work on a different system to the ignition. The doors will unlock but the ignition key immobiliser is specific to each car. That means the car won't recognise the key. Replacing the lost key would have been the easiest fix even though it costs a lot. All you need is the vehicle details for your car. I was quoted £200 for a replacement Vauxhall key. Cheaper than replacing steering columns and associated electronics.
Your only other option is to take it to a Saab Dealer/specialist and pay the 'silly money' for them to reset and link the replacement scrap car key to your car.

you need to spend some time triing the best you can to get the top of the door panel open a bit to see what is broken inside, most likely a clip. The other thing to try is a slim jim to get the door open then repair the door lock.

Your ignition lock probably has sticky pin inside of tumbler.
Try spraying some WD40 or PB Blast into the key cylinder.

Thanks for returning and placing your comments. This "jiggled the key while held the shifter all the way back released!" quickly solved my problem today. Otherwise I was in panic how to move my parked car out of restricted street cleaning side. You should add this to saabsite forum. Saab 9-3, 2002
