I have a 06 pt cruiser the battery light came on i was able to drive for 400 hundred miles i had alternater checked and the charging system checks good . found battery to be weak replaced battery and check battery light still on and charging system still good.what else could be bad???
There is a tsb on that in the dealerships i belive there is a flsh for the computer to fix this problem i have been a mechanic at a chrysler dealership for 9 years now and that is a pretty common problem
But, ok, I agree it might be a computer trouble, but, how can a earthling flash the onboard computer?
Something I know as an experienced mechanic is that if a component is working propperly, it is OK! So, how a fully charging altenrnator can be bad?
I have this problem with my 08 PT Cruiser too, I already scanned an erased all the "codes" but, after driving it, the battery light comes on, at first, I got all scared, but as soon as I cheked the output voltage was correct, 14.2 Volts that is, I discard that light and pay no attention to it whatsoever, but, the warning chime is bothering every 20 minutes of driving, so, what can I do to erase such warning?

Battery light comes on..... Then you restart car and it comes on again..... start with simple diagnostics. Start the car first take the positive battery cable off battery. use a volt meter black lead on negative battery terminal red lead on red battery terminal. it should read 14 + volts. if you do not have 14 volts alternator is baked. Put red lead back on battery. Next test battery with car while turned off. use your volt meter touch Red lead to red cable, black lead to black cable you should get 12.9 to 13.5 volts. A common symptom is that you have a bad battery cell in the battery take the battery to the local auto parts store. they can test your batteries amperage. it should be marked on battery what the cold crank amps or cca should be. if the battery test under that cca number have them charge it up first. if u still get low readings the battery is bad, get a new one. Very rarely but it sometimes happens the voltage regulator in the pcm/ecm box(computer) (located on driver side on the firewall) goes bad and it may send current from the alternator right to ground bypassing the charge causing the battery to lose amps and bingo your battery light comes on. the only way to check this, is to follow the first three parts of this reply. A new computer at the dealership will cost you a literal fortune but you can purchase a certified new or refurbished unit on line a lot cheaper. so before u spend all kinds of money try the ideas in this reply. it will not cost you anything to diagnose before you spend.
Votage reg on that car is the computer
if its the alternator then its a fun job. The wheel has to come off then take off the inner wheel well on passenger side then take off the nut for the tie rod end then take off the nut for the ball joint take off your center axel nut then your both brake caliper nuts then pull your axel out of the transmission by putting a pry bar in behind the axel and prying it out.then take off your both nuts to the alternator then the plug and the single power wire and behind the alternator there is a braket with 2 nuts this also has to be removed then the alternator comes out through that hole sometimes you must turn it the right way to get it outwhere the axel was
The problem can be internal on the alternator. Even though its charging fine there could be a problem internally that causes the light to trigger. I have seen this many times in the rectifier assembly or the rotor assembly or sometimes the stator can have a slight ground problem internally. Hope this helps.
You can get the alternator out through the top, pull it out of the space next to the coolant tank.

If the battery was weak, it is not getting fully charged. Trace down/clean positive/negative cables and check any peripheral wires that be be off these (such as the one to the alternator) for broken or loose connections. If all is clean and tight, my guess is it is your alternator.

battery had problems.the car is running fine .but check battery light still on.checked alternator and with or without load alt shows 14 volts.its keeping new bat fullly charged .checked all connection and they are fine
ok i drove car all the to tucson az from new mexico 450 + miles.new battery that i installed in new mexico is still fully charged alternator is still charging at 14 volts.i even tried disconnecting batterry for a full day and light still came back on as soon as i started car.??? my guess is to pull the alternator and have it checked out on the bench.no other way to pull alternator that might be easier.i'm going to check wires one more time and hope thats it.
Alternator good, New battery not getting charge
