Sensor two is usually after the cat. Bank two would be on the side with cylinder number two.

SOURCE: location of oxygen sensor

I believe you may have three (3) O2 sensor, (2) of the sensor is on ether side of the exhaust down pipe and some times called up stream O2 sensor, the third O2 sensor know to some as the down stream O2 and is after the Catalytic converter.
The up stream O2 monitors the left and right side banks and sends signals to the ECM to make the adjustments to the injectors to keep the proper air/fuel ratio.
The down stream O2 monitors the catalytic converter and sends signal to the ECM if the catalytic converter has gone bad.
Good luck and hope this helps. If you get it scanned at Auto Zone, they should be able to let you know which O2 has gone bad so as to not change all three. You could always check the wire harness to the down stream O2 for corrosion. Keep me posted

SOURCE: 02 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7L oxygen sensor torque spec

Threads of new oxygen sensors are factory coated with anti-seize compound to aid in removal. DO NOT add any additional anti-seize compound to threads of a new oxygen sensor.

  1. Install O2S sensor. Tighten to 30 N·m (22 ft. lbs.) torque.

How many 02 sensor and how many wire each sensor

depending on the engine make
v8 and v6 have 2 oxygen sensors( O2S) , one after each cat converter with 2 wires and 2 heated oxygen sensors ( HO2S) in the exhaust manifold/ pipe before the cat converter with 4 wires each
6 cyl and 4 cyl engines have one oxygen sensor after that cat converter and one heated oxygen sensor before the cat converter

Why the problem with 02 sensor slow during catalyst monitor

Worn out Converter
Worn out O2 Sensors

Oxygen Sensors get replaced when they fail
& if they don't, you replace at 100,000 miles,
as they slow down (switching times)

They won't switch much, if their is little oxygen in
a failed converter,13 years, it's done

How to fix a 98 dodge ram 5.9 with a codeP0138

The Heated Oxygen Sensor (2) located rear of catalytic converter produces an output signal relative to oxygen storage capacity of catalytic converter. Ho2S 2 signal is less active than signal produced by front oxygen sensor. This code sets when HO2 Sensor voltage is greater than 999 mV for more than 2 minutes (time depends on model. Could be as high as 4 minutes).

Here are some potential solutions:
* Replace O2 sensor
* Repair short to battery voltage in o2 sensor signal circuit

Feel free to contact us in this DTC P0138 code link, if you need additional details.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

05' Dodge RAM 1500 code p0420. I've been changing oxygen sensors since u bought it 2 years ago, thought the problem was solved but yet again check engine light came on, could there be an other problem??

Hello: Code P0 420 indicates the catalytic converter is operating below calibrated efficiency (below 60%) replacing the oxygen sensors will not correct the condition. The converter needs to be replaced and the code cleared.

2oo0 chevy blazer cel and code p0171 and p0174

Depending on the engine it will have between 4 and 2.

If you had a straight 4 or 6 engine then there would be only 2, one on the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipe and then one just after the catalytic converter.

If you have a "V" engine (V8, V6) then you have an oxygen sensor on each exhaust manifold and will have a catalytic converter for each bank of the V. There will also be an oxygen sensor downstream of each converter as well. In this case there would be 4 oxygen sensors.
