Stereo static My 2000 Golf has a stock stereo however when I listen to the radio - even in the city where I know there is plenty of coverage, I get a load of static and the sound often cuts out because there is so much of it. Just wondering if there's anything that I can do. I used to have a different stereo which worked without any problems, so wondered if there was an issue with the standard stereo that came with the car. Ideally I'd like to keep the VW stereo in there and not replace it with a different brand etc.

if there was an aftermarket stereo in the car, it could have used a different antenna conection to the unit, check to see if the antenna is plugged in and also check for damaged antenna wiring. if that looks ok, it may be the antenna mast thats mounted to you roof.

Antenna connector behind the radio must be loose or barely connected to it's socket. Now you're getting all the noise electricity can throw at you. Check it by pulling the radio out with the specific radio tool, and don't forget the radio code, you'll need it when you reinstall it back again for it to operate.

If this is the stock radio it has an anti-theft code that needs to be entered into the stereo. The only way I know to get the code is to contact your Ford dealer.

Red light on will not work on the front driver side

do the doors lock and unlock correctly? if yes could be just a bad led bulb. if alarm doesn't work now have the aftermarket radio removed and disconnected. the computer on car monitors the radio so when an aftermarket unit is installed it will mess with the stock computer. VW makes us disconnect aftermarket radios before we are allowed to hook up diagnostic computer because of the problems that occur

Where are the fuses for the speakers - VW Golf 1994

there will not be any fuses for the speakers themselves, you may have fried the internal components which drive the speakers. if the two fuses you mentioned are okay, you most likely will need a new stereo. does the radio even turn on at all?

Stereo removal

you will need to unscrew your dash and pull off the front plate of your dash, then you will need to unscrew the stock radio, then you will need to go ahead and pull out the adapter from the back of your radio. Next you will need to attach your adapter harness to your car harness and splice the color coded wires to the harness on your new cd player. After that, you will need to plug your antenna back into your new cd player, Note that some cd players will require an adapter, these can be found at circuit city or at your local car dealerships.-Shocker
