My 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass's gauges are all not working. the tachometer, odometer, speedometer, temperature and gas gauge all remain at 0 whenever I start the car. What is the problem and how should i go about fixing it? I do know that the seatbelt light does turn on with the cluster and lights up, as well as my turnsignals, so I don't know if it is a wiring issue or there is a even bigger problem at bay
Check engine light ,abs , air bag lights etc.... come on when key turned on ?
Fuse IPC/HVAC BATT 10 amp located in the left IP junction block . Do you know where this junction box is ?
Does the heater an A/C work ? If so the fuse isn't the problem .
Speedometer
The speedometer is a road indicator. The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is a permanent magnet generator which is located on the transaxle. The VSS sends an input to the PCM whenever the transaxle differential carrier turns. The PCM then buffers the VSS signal. The PCM transmits the VSS signal to the following components at 4000 pulses/mile through CKT 817:
• The instrument cluster
• The cruise control module
• The radio (uplevel)
The instrument cluster uses the input in order to indicate the vehicle speed on the speedometer.
Instrument Cluster Indicators
The BCM controls the instrument cluster indicators through the SPI serial data communication bus. Refer to Body Control Module System Check in Body Control System.

check the vehicle speed sensor located on the transmission housing.

I believe that this is caused by a blown Relay or Fuse. I also just went through this. I took my Relays into NAPA and replaced them all, refered back to the diagram and installed the new ones, I also, (unsure if it'll make a difference) turned every fuse to face upright and in the same direction after removing to clean the contact point with a soft tipped metel brush. Overall, replace the Relays and you should be fine.

Your Vehicle Speed Sensor has failed and needs to be replaced.
Here is an example of the part at Autozone...

These instrument clusters are known to be faulty.Replace cluster
