In about 90 percent of the cases that I have delt with when the check engine light is flashing, it means you have a misfire. You need to have codes pulled which most auto parts stores will pull trouble codes for free. Once you get that code then you begin to narrow down what the cause of the problem is. The check engine light/trouble codes lead you in the direction of the problem. If you get a trouble code of P300 it says multiple random misfires. P301 would mean cylinder number 1 is misfiring. P302 is cylinder number 2 and so on. There are many causes of a misfire. Coil, bad injector, cam or crankshaft position sensors, The computer and I could go on but these are the most common. Testing needs to be done to properly diagnose the problem. I would guess the coil is bad due to the flashing but don't just go and buy one until you do fully diagnose the problem. If you can get the trouble code(s) you can reply back here or feel free to email me directly at csautomotivecars@att,net with the troible codes. I can help you with some testing procedures if you are mechanical and have some basic hand tools and a ohm/volt meter. I will tell you this (not to scare you) but if you are flashing then the computer is telling you that the misfire is so bad that it is to the point of possibly causing damage to your catalitic converter so you should address this as soon as possible. Hope this help you....

SOURCE: IT acts like running on two cylinders The check

Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' (Service Engine Soon) light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on.
You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE the problem and perhaps eventually fix the problem.
Go to www.hmaservice.com and register( Vehicle by VIN). Afterward, you have access to shop manuals, service bulletins, wiring diagrams, etc. about your vehicle.Take/Tow your vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealership and pay the diagnostic fee... they will tell you exactly what the problem is and the cost of parts/labor to fix it... at least this way you'll know what the problem is and what's required to fix it.

2007 Hyundai Accent SE 1.6L Flashing check engine light and no power. Automatic transmission, car doesn't want to shift.

Injectors, compression, several engine mechanical issues ( burnt valves, weak or broken valve springs, piston rings, head gaskets, cracked block or heads ) and bad ECM drivers for injectors/coil packs can all cause engine misfires. The flashing light means possible catalytic converter damage .
